Normally no. If the fork seals are leaking when you ratchet the front down on the trailer your seals were bad prior to that. If you are talking about the straps being wrapped around the forks the only thing that they would contact would be the dust covers. The fork seals are actually down inside the fork about 1/4 inch. Your idle circuit jet is clogged, you will need to run seafoam fuel additive in your gas tank and see if this clears it up or clean the carbs.

Your battery is new ... did it come fully charged or were you suppose to charge it before you installed it? Check the voltage, should be at least 11 volts. I might be calling the store to get further instruction ...
Double check all connections, make sure they are clean and tight (and proper - negative to the ground, positive to the hot side of the start solenoid).
