Hi Anonymous, sorry to hear that, it needs to be replaced. You can either procure a service manual and do it yourself or take it to your local dealer or reputable shop, it's not easy to do if you have no experience, special tools ect. Good luck

SOURCE: change a stator

First secure the bike on a lift. disconnect battery.remove standard footpeg.Remove standard shifter. Remove all allen head bolts from outer primary cover. Some bolts are longer so keep track of where they go.Two bolts on the primary inspection cover also hold the outer to the inner primary case, so remove the cover. Now remove the outer primary case. The clutch, primary chain, adjuster, and compensating sprocket must be reoved as a single unit.Once you have done this take a rag and grasp the rotor and slide it off of the main engine shaft.Unplug the stator and remove the set screws holding it in place.Reverse procedure to install new stator.

SOURCE: battery wont charge more than 12.25 at 2000 rpm

Check the rectifier, its responsible for charging the battery when running, the fuse too, however the rectifier if it can not be repaired, better to buy a new one......................sodeep

SOURCE: I think I have a bad stator on my 2002Harley Dyna

too many variables !
Firstly check battery under load ! any battery place or auto electrician can so it usually free!
do this before replacing any thing else!
make sure all connections are clean & tight
if battery is ok get them to check the charge rate on bike! its a simple test or you can do it with a volt meter they are only cheap to buy!

Got a 05 c90t that's not charging. been told it's the stator or R/R. If i charge it up, it runs, then dies. how can the stator be bad if it still runs. If it's a bad stator, would it not run at all?

When you charge it and it runs, it is running FROM THE BATTERY (until the battery dies). I agree with the diagnosis of the stator or regulator.

I'm pretty sure my stator is bad but when I turn my Yamaha Tt-R 225 over it just clicks but when I jump it of it wants to start but only a whining sound could I be wrong period?

stator is only for charging. if you charge battery up and try, it should be fine. stator will just cause excessive battery drain. same as alternator in a car. if you run it and unhook battery... it dies, the stator is bad. keeps running, stator is good.
the clicking is low battery sound, but need more info on whine

No spark. How do I check stator?

It is most likely not the stator
it is most likely the CDI box (black box) however to check the stator there are two or three yellow wires comming out of the stator check each of the wires with a ohm meter for continuity if any goes to ground the stator is bad but most likely it is the CDI box

My bike is not charging

Stator - check 3 yellow wires if they have resistance between them, (they are coming from stator), reading should be the same, if not, you have a bad stator. This bike doesnt have a rotor. If the stator is o.k., then your rectifier is gone.

Hi, Anonymous for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. Will my 97 cbr 900 run with the stator unplugged?

Perhaps it will run for a few seconds or minutes but it will die eventually. Stock bikes cannot run just with their battery. You need to have your stator repaired.

Have a 1993 honda nighthalk not chargeing disconect pos wire it dies is that a bad stator?a friend said thats what that ment plese give me some good advice. ty

It could be a bad stator, a bad rectifier or a bad voltage regulator. Don't just jump to the stator unless you do some testing.

Need to check out and possibly replace rectifier on 1982 Suzuki GS 1100L My battery is not charging.

It's much more likely that its the stator although they do do the odd regulator as well.
Start at the stator first as it is easier to test.
Disconect the stator wires-sometimes behind the front sprocket cover-sometimes further up the wiring loom.
Using a multimeter check for resistance between the yellow wires (3x) comming from the stator cover. Check that none of these wires has conunuity(connection) to earth.
If any/all do you have a burnt out stator- remove the stator cover & inspect- the windings will look burnt & smell bad also.

If the stator tests fine then the reg is most likely the problem.

Hope this helps-
Regards Andrew

Trying to verify that the stator is bad. Its a 2002 sportsman 90. I have the manual but it still doesn't tell you what to do if the the specs are out. The only test that is not checking out would be...

the fact that you only get 47 volts indicates the stator has an open, there is nothing else but the stator that causes this low un-regulated voltage reading, all stators are tested the sam no matter what they come out of, car motorcycle, ATV etc.
here is the basic test.

STATOR TESTING.—The stator winding can be tested for opens and grounds after it has been disconnected from the alternator end frame. If the ohmmeter reading is low or the test lamp lights when connected between each pair of stator leads (fig. 2-31), the stator winding is electrically good. A high ohmmeter reading or failure of the test lamp to light when connected from any one of the leads to
the stator frame (fig. 2-32) indicates the windings are not grounded. It is not practical to test the stator for shorts due to the very low resistance of the winding.

Installing a new stator on a 2005 honda cbr1000rr

Do you know for certain that the stator is bad?
Quite possible of course, but the R/R is a much more common failure.

The R/R used on later gen CBR1000 (or CBR600) is a much better device than that on your 05 1000.

Use this dianostic guide to determine if the problem is really the stator or the R/R - it applies equally to your Honda as any other bike.
http://www.triumphrat.net/speed-triple-forum/104504-charging-system-diagnostics-rectifier-regulator-upgrade.html

One very quick test you can do on your stator is to unplug it, then measure resistance from the connector going back into stator: measure from any of the three pins to the engine ground. This should NOT be short - a short crcuit is an affirmative indication of a bad stator. If open, it is not necessarily definitive of being good, but most often is the case that a 'fried' stator has teh accompanying short to ground.

Good Luck!
