SOURCE: harley davidson flstc heritage softail 1997

The fork oil is a very specific job needing a manual and a special tool, I don't want to insult anyones mechanical knowledge but if you have never done it before, best to take somewhere else. Engine oil on the other hand is easy, the drain tube to any softail is on the right side by where the frame meets the swing arm, has somekind of plug in it. Start and run bike for a little while, long enough to get it warm but not hot. Remove fill plug and then remove plug in drain line. Using a peice of cardboard or something put in between filter and frame , directing the oil to your drain pan instead of where ever it goes. Put 1 qt oil back in (after everything is reinstalled) start the bike and make sure the oil light goes out, when it does shut bike off and fill to the point that when it is standing upright you get a little oil on the tip of your finger, over filling may result in loss of oil cap from pressure (been there)

SOURCE: is it a concern an oil leak from the base rear cylinder 1995 heritage softail

You can ride it, but the leaking oil could cause problems if it gets on the rear tire, brakes, etc. You may as well replace both base gaskets at the same time.

2003 Fatboy while winterizing drained the oil very little came out however there was oil in filter..New filter, filled with oil started sounds like usual then the oil shot out of the cap where you insert...

On the softail model Harley Davidson's the oil tank is external and sits up higher than the engine crank case and oil pump. when these bikes sit for an amount of time the oil gravitates from the tank to the crank case. starting may seem sightly harder and seem like the battery is going dead. the bike should be started in knowing that you had oil in it to start with and no giant leak puddle underneath of it. warm up the engine and then drain the oil out of the tank. the reason why your filler cap popped off is because you had probably 2 1/2 to 3 quarts to much engine oil in the bike. so drain the oil from the tank at the drain pug at the bottom of the hose on the high (right side ) of the bike where the swing arm meets the frame (it is a 5/8 socket) put the drain plug back in run the bike for about 5 minutes inspecting with a flashlight continuously that oil is circulating back into the tank. then dran it again and replace with new oil.

Were is the fuel filter located on a harley davidson 1998 heritage softail very sluggish an hard to start wont idle properly an back fires at times

Filter is in the fuel tank attached to the fuel petcock. Check your intake gaskts for an air leak. Get the bike running and squirt some brake clean near the intake seals and see if the bike dies or idle increases, but dont squirt too much to get sucked in the air cleaner. Also check the vacuum lines going from the fuel petcock to the carb for dry rotted or loose connections.

I have an oil leak from the primary chain case. What do I need to do/replace? Thanks. Eddie Fowler

There are 6 places that oil can weep/seep/leak from on a Softail primary chaincase. The drain plug, the inspection cover gasket, the cover's gasket, and 3 "interior" seals. I'd thoroughly clean the entire area (under the bike as well) and go for a good test ride. Park on a clean surface so I could properly identify the source(s) of leakage. Remember, oil can "travel" while riding at speed. Hopefully you'll be better able to see if your leak is coming from the cover area itself or from the "inner" primary to engine and transmission interface area.

I changed my oil and filter now oil is leaking

you put to much oil in. drain some off. some oil in recirculated through breather hose's going to the air filter. If u over fill more goes in then can be handled and it drips out of airfilter and onto bike. dont put in a full 3 qts just 2.6
