Question about 2006 Harley Davidson FXSTDI Softail Deuce
On a hot day if I fill up the tank, after riding a few miles it just dies, I just pull over turn it off and start it. This last time there was not any place to pull over so I just pulled in the clutch and hit the start button a few times and it started. I have talked to dealers and mechanics and no one can help me with this problem. I am going just fill it up 3/4 from now on and see if that helps.

When your oil heats it expands. Your bike holds 3 qts dry..when you change your oil only put 2.6 qts in. the full mark you are looking at is when the bike is hot not cold. a full 3 qts is to much.

Did you turn engine over coupla times to completely drain bike whilst emptying with drain plug out and lid off tank? If not you run risk of partial retainment in oil cooler and engine. While refilling it pays to half fill then turn engine over few times to flush oil through before topping off. How much oil came out when you drained? Yes, your bike should take about 3 1/4 Litres to fill from completely drained.

SOURCE: Morning, I have a 2004
I'd take the battery out and take it to an automotive parts store and ask them to load test the battery. This will tell if you are having a intermittant short in your battery. If the battery is over two years old, this is a good possiblility.
I'm not sure about the late models but the earlier models would not run if a battery cable came loose.

try cleaning out the on-off reserve switch on tank. maybe was dirty or gummed up, pull fuel hose and see if anything comes out if not then floats in carbs maybe stuck closed keeping the needle from opening and allowing fuel into bowls
