SOURCE: engine timing, hornet 250

there is normally marks on the flywheel. sometimes 3 sometimes less. find the mark that makes the left piston sit at top dead centre on the compression strocke and it should be lined up correct. make sure that u are happy before u try starting otherwise it could end up very expensive.

Check your stator or pickup coil, if you run with a low battery chances are that you have either one or both.
Hope this helps you.

Remove the left side cover then the flywheel. Chances are you will need a flywheel puller. See the diagram below.

Can you tell me where the timing marks are on the honda vtr 1000

I take it you have the cam sprocket marks (FE and FI) facing away from each other icon_question.gif and the cam lobes facing away from each other also (at approximately ten past ten, looking at a clock face) icon_question.gif

If you can just about get the FE mark lined up with the top of the cylinder head OK, but not the FI mark it would suggest to me that the inlet cam is one tooth out.

If the cam chain has stretched that much IMHO both the FE and FI cam sprocket marks would be out, not just the one icon_exclaim.gif

Before trying to adjust it, what you need to do is have a close inspection of the cam sprocket and chain to see if it is out enough for a one tooth adjustment to put it right.

This photo shows what one tooth out looks like:-

hope this helps

My honda vtr 250 is blowing smoke, what could it be

Could be too much oil in the crankcase. Could be worn rings or other wear in your engine. Could be a clogged crankcase vent valve. Could be crappy oil (always use the highest graded oil that meets Honda specifications for your VTR 250.

Best place to get more information is at your local Honda Shop. If you haven't yet, you should go there and make friends with someone who works in the parts department. They will be your new BFFE.

Thanks for your question here @ I hope you get your trouble resolved.

Where is the oil filter on a vtr 250

See your local Honda dealer with your vin number. They can print you a drawing with detail how to take that area apart. Even if you knew where it was, it is not advised to just take somethintg apart. Lack of knowledge can cost you in the end.
