Look on the right side of the bike and you'll see a large plug that takes a 3/8' hex key to remove it. Check the transmission oil level with the bike standing straight up. Now, if you bought the bike used, some people change the dipstick to a knurled knob type dipstick so they can get it out with their fingers. It should be on the clutch release cover close to where the clutch cable goes into the transmission.

Testimonial: "Was very helpful in helping me diagnose the issue. Found that the primary cover drain plug was not fully seated and so it leaked out most of the fluid"
SOURCE: where is the transmission dip
On the right side of the bike in the clutch release mechanism on the end of the transmission. It's kinda located behind the exhaust pipes. It's a plug that takes a 3/8" Allen or Hex key to remove. It's got a short dipstick on it. Check the fluid with the bike standing straight up and keep the level between the two lines.

I will walk you thru it from the manual. The
transmission filler plug/dipstick location : DYNA Models is located
under the battery box and just above the exhaust top pipe on the right
side of the scooter.
The dipstick/filler plug should be a shiny chrome allen headed looking
bolt. When the dipstick/filler plug has been removed there is an F above
a triangle toward the top if fluid is a the F it is full and the
towards the bottom of the stick there is a another triangle and an A
this means you need to add fluid if fluid level is at the A triangle
marker. Oh, Tranny fluid specs are 32 OZS. I recommend using ONLY
Genuine Harley Davidson Fluids.
If you need to drain or change the fluid please let me know I will walk you through step by step. Also if you need to know about the primary or engine lube specs please let me know as I have the manual sitting right here in front of me to assist you in any way I can.
I REALLY REALLY Hope this assisted you and will be more than happy to assist further step by step if you need it.

yes. the entire primary drive must be taken off and the inner primary on all Big Twin bikes to change the final drive belt. The good thing on the Dyna is that you don't have to pull the rear swing arm like you do on the other models. Just remove the rear wheel and the left side shock.
