Rock the caps around to make sure the bearing locating clips are lined up. Torque the bearing caps to 12 foot-pounds. At this point you must check the valve clearances again. If any are off, the cam must be removed and the correct shims installed.

Check the coupling and he circlip that's inside of it that connects the starter to the jackshaft. If this coupling is stripped out, it will allow the starter shaft to spin inside the coupling while the jackshaft remains still unscrewing the bolt. Otherwise, I'd put a new lock lockplate on the screw along with a drop of Loctite #242 (medium hold blue) and torque the bolt to specs. Allow time for the Loctite to set before attempting to start the engine. You must have a belt drive on the bike for the bolt to drop out on the floor. On a standard bike, you don't have enough support on the jackshaft to start the engine without the outer primary cover on it.

Cylinder head torque is 35-40 Foot Pounds
Through 1990 the valve settings are .006 intake and .008 exhaust. Torque heads first.
