Question about 1984 Honda VF 1100 C

V65 will start and idle fine but won't take any throttle!

I've done everthing I can think of and replaced alot of parts...still same problem. Bike will start right up and idle but the second you give it any throttle, she'll die. WHAT IS GOING ON?!!!

Recheck the main jets in the carbs, there seems to be some kind of obstacle, pressure blow them.

More than likely your cooling fans are coming on way too late and is super hard for the radiator to get rid of the heat while is @ idling.
there is a upgraded radiator switch

i think this will be your resolution anything else is prob going to be a head gasket.

More than likely the carbs need to be removed , taken apart and thoroughly cleaned. Replace fuel filter first. With that many miles, bike has done a lot of sitting in storage.

2003 yz 250 starts and idles but runs rich and bogs as soon as the throttle is applied

1. Throttle cables misaligned or misrouted.
2. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
3. Intake system air leak.
4. Vacuum piston malfunction.
5. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
6. Plugged bowl vent or overflow.
7. Fuel level in bowl too low.
8. Restricted fuel supply passages.
9. Plugged jets or passages.
10. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
11. The enrichner valve not seated or leaking.

I have a 84 V65 Magna. When I get on the throttle in 1st & 2nd gear, it clunks (like it's skipping). It only happens only in 1st & 2nd gear. What's the problem?


I use to have the same exact bike. Mine did the same thing. My problem was in the transmission. In mime it was the teeth of my first and second gear were damaged. The bike was too old to invest the money to fix it.The person who owned it before me had miss shifted alot.I did it once and that put the icing on the cake.

Cleaned everthing top to bottom ,bike sat for a while gas was bad,it idels fine,but now when i give it gas it dies,i think its the auto choke?it puffs black smoke when it dies,can u dissconect chocke?


try replaceing the slow jet inside the carb its 3.95 part little brass screw inside card tech at harley said if that jets plugd bike wont hold a idle it mite start but no idle i replaced mine and bike runs fine i had the same problem trust me that little screw will be the difference in running and not running it has tiny pin holes that will never be cleand out good enough spend the 4 bucks its worth it easy fix take carb off remove the bottem of carb off ull see the jets the slow jet is the 1 that is deep down the hole its a little brass screw with pin holes in it

2001 vmax My throttle has alot of play in it, which I can adjust, but when I get the bike warm, it won't stay at an idle. The idle will creep up to about 2500 rpm. Almost like the throttle cable...


Try lubing your cables and throttle mechanism first. Do your adjustment when the bike is warm. It sounds like you're making one of the cables too tight.

Im having we\ak ignition like problems ive relaced points plugs tryed a differrent generator cause im also having charging problems and the bike starts n will run fine if i throttle out its right at the...


"missing n popping" can be caused by a lot of things. A motorcycle engine is a finely tuned system of ignition, fuel delivery, and exhaust systems. If anything is wrong in any of these systems, it won't run right.

As for the ignition system, The points must be set correctly, the timing set correctly, and the coil much have a primary resistance of 5 to 6 ohms.

The charging system must deliver at least 14.5 to 15.0 volts to the battery when the bike is at a high idle. If you installed a new generator, did you "polarize" the generator by momentarily shorting between the armature connection on the generator and the positive battery post?

What kind of carb do you have and how is it jetted? Is the accelerator pump working like it should. If not, the bike will stumble and hesitate when you roll the throttle on.

What kind of exhaust system do you have? If you've got drag pipes on an Ironhead Sportster, you're asking for trouble. They don't have enough backpressure for the engine but I can tell you how to fix that.

I have a 2002 yz250 that wont idle. It will start everytime and run as long as your on the gas but dies when you let off the gas.


Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or a plug on the bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw/plug then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well. The diagram below depicts the problem area. The bike will idle properly once the pilot jet and related passageways are cleared.

Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

Paul Smart won't start or idle without help


most likely a vacuum leak. Make sure clamps are tight and all hoses are connected. Also there are holes in the intake boots that should be plugged with screws, sometimes mechanics remove them to set up the throttle butterflys, sometimes they fall out.
