Question about 2006 Harley Davidson FXSTB Night Train

Harley head lights cut on and off

2009 FXSTB Night Train: The high beam indicator on the instrument panel goes on (even when switched to Low beams) and both high and low beam lamps cease to work. Sometimes if I hit a bump they will come back on so I know its a short... Just not sure if the short is in the handlebar switch or in the cluster, or under the tank, or on the bulb itself?

If the high beam indicator comes on in both low and high settings, then you have a ground wire problem at the headlamp. Check the ground wire or replace it with a new one. Do not ground the headlamp to the steering head as you will be passing headlamp current through steering head bearings causing damage. Run a wire from headlamp to main frame only.

Most likely on the bulb itself if you haven't done any work previous to the problem

SOURCE: 2003 FLSTCI high beam works, low beam and spots do

sounds to me like the low beam filament in the headlight bulb is blown test for voltage on the yellow wire at the headlight with it set to low beam if you have voltage here you more then likely have a blown low beam filament

Hi, sames to be a bad and or loose ground wire - try adding a ground wire from the chip/module to a good known ground. if it solves the problem then hunt for a bad ground. Fran[Mechanic]

Why don't lights work?

Both the headlight switch and the BCM provide a ground, or control circuit, to the headlight relay coil circuit for manual or automatic headlamp operation. When you place the headlamp switch in the OFF position, and the ambient light sensor indicates low light conditions, the BCM energizes the headlamp relay for low beam operation. You may switch the headlights to high beam by pulling the dimmer switch handle toward you until the dimmer switch is activated. When the dimmer switch is placed in the HIGH position, the indicator lamp input to the BCM is pulled low. The BCM then sends a class 2 message to the instrument cluster in order to illuminate the high beam indicator lamp.

Hi Anonymous, no it means your hi/low beam switch could be faulty or your indicator light has constant power for a free wiring diagram please visit the website below and good luck.

2005 Ford Focus ZX3 SES, the blue high beam indicator in the dash comes on with low beams, and goes off with high beams. The indicator is on at the wrong time! I have tried the following: The turn signal...

It sounds like you are confused about how your headlamp system is supposed to work. The DRL does not run on the High beam circuit, it runs on the low beam circuit. The fog lamps are supposed operate with the park lamps and also with the low beams, not the high beams. From your description, I would say that your system is operating as designed and you are having trouble telling High from Low. (Don't feel bad, that is why high beam indicators were invented in the first place.)

My low beams will not cut on, but my high beam light says that they are on but are not and will not cut off. Only lights that are on are my park lights. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Headlights wont work

Well...lets start with the obvious. Check fuses and NEVER piggyback any stereo or security stuff into their fuses...you dont want the lights to shut down during a night drive!!
Check under the hood for a relay center...also has some fuses there as well.

The Daytime Running Lamps are a "straight through wiring configuration". Doubt it even goes through a headlight switch at all.
But the regular lights do.
Unless you've worked on the front of the car and forgot to plug the headlights back in, do this...
Turn the light switch on...looking at the instrument cluster , can you make the high-beam-indicator light come on?
As you rotate the headlight switch knob...does the instrument panel lights brighten or dim? You probably have a faulty headlight switch...auto stores have them...they simply plug in.
