While mowing a simple, fairly flat area of low grass, the cutter stopped. Engine is fine, I did not hit anything, the cutter simply stopped, the belt is fine, the 20 AMP fuse is fine and engine still runs fine and drives.. A wire fuse junction labeled with 20A/35A 14VDC looks corroded so I'm guessing this might be the issue? Any ideas Folks much appreciated, I'm very remote so cannot easily get to town to repair.. Cheers!
You more than likely found the solution. The corroded fuse wires are telling you there is a problem there. Clean the connector(junction) both the female and male side of the connector. squeeze the female side a bit, and probe the male side to spread contacts slightly then plug back together. If this does not work, buy a replacement fuse junction and put a dab of silicone sealer around the wire connectors to prevent corrosion.
Testimonial: "Thanks Daryl, handy advice, is this fuse junction the little black box with about 4 wires going in and returning back into the web of wires.. Just making sure, I've not squeezed it although I have given the exposed male connectors a clean, but some of the females look rusty still.. What is the purpose of this box? Cheeers!"

Check your fuse, use a ohm meter to check fuse or a new one.
Testimonial: "The only fuse I see is a 20amp fuse, it's relatively new and looks perfect. It blew a few months back.."

That model number des not show up as a good number on the http://www.searspartsdirect.com site. Are you sure you have the belts on correctly? If it has 2 belts on the deck & 1 is not installed correctly they work against each other. Safely make sure that each blade will turn by hand. did you take the blades off? If they are too long by just a fraction, they will hit ach other, but that usually makes quiet a noise. Get your book out & systematically go over everything you touched or changed. It sounds like something really simple you have overlooked. you can go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com & enter a good model number & view all of the parts diagrams. Sometimes they are a big help, & at other times they just confuse you more:). Let me know what you find!!
SOURCE: Hi, I have a westwood
Sounds like the cutter is not turning free causing the engine to drag down and stop, I do not think the B&S engine is the problem. I have rebuilt dozens of these engines and most of the problems with a Briggs engine was dirt in the gas or carburetor that needed needle valve cleaned . If the cutters turn free, check for a bad or out of adjustment safety kill switch that engages and stops the engine as the cutters are engaged.

Check your blades for turning. A OTHER REASON COULD BE THE AIR FILTER GOT WET. If got wet. Put in the sun for a few days.
