Cutter stopped while mowing

While mowing a simple, fairly flat area of low grass, the cutter stopped. Engine is fine, I did not hit anything, the cutter simply stopped, the belt is fine, the 20 AMP fuse is fine and engine still runs fine and drives.. A wire fuse junction labeled with 20A/35A 14VDC looks corroded so I'm guessing this might be the issue? Any ideas Folks much appreciated, I'm very remote so cannot easily get to town to repair.. Cheers!

You more than likely found the solution. The corroded fuse wires are telling you there is a problem there. Clean the connector(junction) both the female and male side of the connector. squeeze the female side a bit, and probe the male side to spread contacts slightly then plug back together. If this does not work, buy a replacement fuse junction and put a dab of silicone sealer around the wire connectors to prevent corrosion.

Testimonial: "Thanks Daryl, handy advice, is this fuse junction the little black box with about 4 wires going in and returning back into the web of wires.. Just making sure, I've not squeezed it although I have given the exposed male connectors a clean, but some of the females look rusty still.. What is the purpose of this box? Cheeers!"

Check your fuse, use a ohm meter to check fuse or a new one.

Testimonial: "The only fuse I see is a 20amp fuse, it's relatively new and looks perfect. It blew a few months back.."

SOURCE: Craftsman 42 inch deck mower.

That model number des not show up as a good number on the http://www.searspartsdirect.com site. Are you sure you have the belts on correctly? If it has 2 belts on the deck & 1 is not installed correctly they work against each other. Safely make sure that each blade will turn by hand. did you take the blades off? If they are too long by just a fraction, they will hit ach other, but that usually makes quiet a noise. Get your book out & systematically go over everything you touched or changed. It sounds like something really simple you have overlooked. you can go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com & enter a good model number & view all of the parts diagrams. Sometimes they are a big help, & at other times they just confuse you more:). Let me know what you find!!

SOURCE: Hi, I have a westwood

Sounds like the cutter is not turning free causing the engine to drag down and stop, I do not think the B&S engine is the problem. I have rebuilt dozens of these engines and most of the problems with a Briggs engine was dirt in the gas or carburetor that needed needle valve cleaned . If the cutters turn free, check for a bad or out of adjustment safety kill switch that engages and stops the engine as the cutters are engaged.

SOURCE: Mower cuts out when cutter engaged

MOVED YOU OUT OF CARS TO LAWN MOWER.
that is lost engine power
causes are
bad fuel or old and bad. fuel
all filters clogged,air or fuel
or carb clugged up,. (gunked up from bad fuel super common)

cold starts use a choke and goes super rich hiding clogged jets in carb.
clean carb or replace it if all above filters and fuel good.

I was cutting the grass when the small wheel on cutter deck touched a breeze block causing the engine to stop. Since then when I turn the engine on, the mower deck won't engage.

Sounds like you may have broken the shear pin in one of the drive pulleys. Check and see if your drive belt is in place and also make sure the belt is not broken. If you have hit something hard enough to stall the engine I feel you have to replace the shear pin.

Change suffolk punch mower14 from grass cutter to scarifier

Remove grass box support cradle. Unscrew 2 allen bolts (one each side - located in front of cutting cylinder). Remove mowe side casing (drive side). Pull out entire cutting cylinder assembly. Usually they slide out without issue, but sometimes, they will jam and need levering out. There's nothing holding it in except the 2 screws.

Insert the scarifier assembly and secure with the 2 bolts.

Bogs when blade is engaged

for this to happen you must have a bearing problem either in the gear box or cutter deck that has seized from rust or failed bearings. disconnect the cutter belts and see it t moves forward freely If so then turn each cutter spindle by hand and find which one won't turn or is rough in the movement.

Why does my garbage disposal keeping locking up? I've checked inside to see if anything is lodging the blades but can't find anything.

Next time it sticks. Vacuum out everything.
See if the cutter wheel is still lodged.
Or if cutter wheel rolls free.
If cutter wheel rolls free after a simple vacuum, then I would suspect the motor is old and weak.
If cutter wheel is still lodged, then check around the edge and see what is stuck.
If there are pieces of metal, then the cutter wheel is probably falling apart bit by bit.

I have a Simplicity Zero-Turn 20 hp 50" cut. Just recently when mowing I have "clumps" of grass all over the yard. Any idea what would cause this? Also, the mower is supposed to stipe the lawn - I have...

Hi, well you have the cutter too close to the ground, try raising it up a couple of notches.
Now as for the "clumps" on the lawn. Well IF you mean GROWING clumps, that's because the mower is dumping the cut grass in a pile, somewhat, and that's adding nutrients to that particular Patch, and it simply grows faster because it's got more "Food".

If you mean, CUT grass patches, then again your Cutter is Too Close to the ground, and it's dragging the cut grass, and then when it gets too much, it is "packeting" the cut grass, every now an again when it builds up and is left in "piles" instead of being evenly distributed, and driven into the ground, behind the mower.

Engine stalls when blade is engaged

the best way to check is to run the engine with you on it then lift off the seat and see if the seat sensor is cutting off then put a bag with some weight in it and turn on the engine it should run ok if the sensor is working and lift the back box to see if the sensor works there.. the other cause could be a build up of grass in teh cutter area stopping the blades fron moving this can caus a stall if you get a hose and blast under the cutter guards and make shure the grass shute is clear for the grass to exit this may help to mine cuts out if there is a blockage here and the grass cant get out after it has been cut it builds up at the exit plates.. Hope this works AB
