Sounds like the bike is running a little rich, you need to add more air or less gas and lean out the fuel mixture which will cause your bike to have more pep in it's step and fix that backfire issue. Not good at all for an engine.

Have you checked Google I found this hopefully it's not your timing or it may be flooded but doubtful have you tried spraying starting fluid into the intake while cranking it

Yz 426 wont idle, backfires and bogs out

Hello phwolfe,
Did not backfire but , boged out appling fuel. Found it was flooding because
the floats were over filling the chambers. Adjusted float settings (by eye )
problem solved !! Keeping the chambers 1/2 to 3/4 full worked for me.
My Bike is a 1983 Midnight Maxim 653cc. 4 Cylinder. Maybe yours is fuel injected ?

Best of luck !!

Bogging and backfiring on my atk 605

then all of a sudden it started bogging at certain RPMs. Then it would'nt start for a while. It runs fine at idle but once the throttle is turned more that 1/4 turn it just sputters and backfires but does not stall... any suggestions? Spark plug and battery can do this.QuickConnects or check injector plugs make sure both are injecting,

Bogs and backfires

What have you done so far? Does your van have electronic ignition or points? If the latter i'd check/replace points, capacitor & white, low tension wire inside distributor. Also check the spark plugs (all four should have the same grey/brown colour) & H.T. lead resistance, especially if the fault occurs under load/acceleration.
