Hi Anonymous, for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix/test or parts inquiry. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. The marker ("running") lights are a separate circuit than the signal lights.
Normally you have a tail light, and the front running lights on with the headlight.
The bulbs used in the rear signal lights would be a single filament 1156 bulb, whereas the bulbs in the front are dual filament, one for turn signal, one for running light.

I have rear turn signals, but no tail light or running light

Check your tail light wiring because turn signals and tail light wiring is different, there may a chance that turn signals are okay but tail light is not responding or tail light and running lights are responding and turn signals are not okay.

I have a 2005 Road King Classic. My running lights ( the 2 lights on either side of the headlight) are not on. The headlamp works and the fuse for the headlamp is ok. What fuse runs these lamps? Ken in...

One fuse runs all your lights. Have you checked the bulbs? If they are set up for turn signals and running lights, they will have two filaments, one for the running lights and one for the turn signals. I'm pretty sure your running lights and turn signals are controlled by the turn signal cancelling unit. There is the chance that someone disconnected them. The older bikes didn't have running lights on them and that's how you could tell a Harley from the rice burners, not running lights. Just the headlight.

Good Luck

Wire loose

The blue wire is the wire to supply voltage to your "running" lamp filament in the buld. Take your bulb out and look at the back side of it. It should have two round connectors on it. One is for the turn signal and one is for the running light. The "running light" should be on when you start the bike. When you turn the turn signal on on that side, the turn signsl filament should light up along with the running light filament.

With the bike running and headlight on, all four turn signals should lit as "running lights". Earlier models did not have the "running lights' on them. Now, when you turn the turn signals on either side the bulbs should blink much brighter. If you press and hold both the right and left turn signal switches, you're four way flasher signal should come on. If you still can't figure it out, Drop me a line at wd4ity@bellsouth.net and I will scan a wiring diagram in for you and send it to you. Good Luck Steve

Signal lights on R1 don't work...

Though I can't recall what the wire colors are for your bike's turn signals, here's how to figure it out: on the turn signals that you bought, first determine which wire is the ground by removing the light bulb and then checking to see which wire has continuity to the turn signal's metal bulb socket base.
Then find out which wire is the running light and which is the turn signal by hooking the ground wire and one of the other wires to a 12 volt power source. Which ever wire makes the brighter part of the bulb light up is the turn signal - the dimmer one is for the running light.
On the bike, match the turn signal wire to the bike's wiring that is 'hot' with the turn signal switch on. Plug the running light wire from the turn signal into the bike's wiring that is 'hot' whever the key is on. Hook the turn signal ground wire to the bike's ground wire(s).

Get a test light and stick the probe in the connector on the bike and clip the other end to a good ground. Turn on the key and run the turn signals, brake light and running light. Move the probe from hole to hole until you find the turn signal flash, the brake light and the running light. Obviously, the turn signals will flash, the brake light will go on and off when you hit the pedal, and the running light will stay on constantly. the three wires on the brake light are ground, brake and running light. Should be a simple matter to figure out which wires go where from here. If you are using digital lights, i.e. LED lights, the current only flows one way. As an example, if you hook up the turn signals and they don't work, reverse the wires.

sounds like a poor ground issue, pull out the headlight and check all connections in there, your turn signals are on seperate feeds than the lights but they will probably share the same ground/earth in the headlight

Brake lights dont work, Turn Signals all goofy

First thing i would do is chg. the break light switch, and make sure to chk. all grounds around tailights, sometimes if there is a ground problem it will travel back thru the hot wire to get a ground, witch in turn makes everything go wackey.
