Question about Harley Davidson Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 09 nightster with 17,100 miles, 7,100 from me in the year and a half I've had it. It's been running great, but recently I've had shifting issues. If it's off I can shift from first to neutral with no problems, but when it's on I can shift into first easily but it won't shift into neutral at all. It also starts to roll in first as if I let off the clutch enough but I will have the clutch fully engaged. I adjusted the cables and that didn't make a difference. Do I just need to adjust the actual clutch, not the cable; or would it be the fluids?

You do not adjust clutch cables, you only have one and you need about 1/8 inch freeplay at the clutch lever/ perch. You need to adjust the clutch inside the primary cover. If you have fluid more than just touching the bottom of the clutch diaphragm spring you can also have a dragging clutch.

SOURCE: 1st to 2nd Gear Engagement Issue

bent selector fork on the gearbox, and that would be a full engine strip no doubt about it, any more use of it will cause a screwed gearbox and thats mega money!

get it to a mechanic or buy a haynes/clymer manual to help.

The average life of a taurus or sable transaxles is a
surprising 65,000 miles, then you have to rebuild it
I only recently read that

In the early 1990's I owned a trans repair business
& over half my work was taurus & caravans
The rest was japanese

I can not see that being the original transaxle from
1995, but I wouldn't hold out hope of any type of
simple fix

There are non to my recall ,other than a cable on
the throttle body & I don't even know if they still exist

I've got a 1996 Kawasaki ZX6R. The bike runs great. However, it will shift down into first gear, but won't shift up past neutral. Any thoughts? Thanks, Lance

The bike has a bent shift fork. The engine must come out then gets flipped upside down to remove the bottom half of the crankcase. This allows access to the gears and shift forks. The repair is not recommended for the home mechanic. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_211.gif

Transmission on my new 2010 won't shift until the engine gets warm. Sometimes I have to go up to a half mile in cold weather before it shifts. Car has less than 3000 miles on it.

Your transmission fluid may have frozen recently, which causes it to become "gelled". The solution may be as simple as having the transmission fluid drained and replaced.

You Should Getit Changed Because It'll Save You Gas Pluse Less Tress On The Transmission & Engine & Could Cause Gear **** Stall !
