Get instructions from the manufacturer or get something to sort out what wires do what. OR you could hook black up to black and test the other wires to see what does what. How many wires are on the new lite??? ALWAYS best to get the right information from the designer/manufacturer though and cut out the guesswork

SOURCE: 1981 Wide Glide Bike is missing and backfiring

open up the ignition cover plate and check the backing plate. it may have come loose and threw the bike out of time.
make sure your plug wires are plugged on tight and the coil wires are secure.
It is most definitely a timing problem.

SOURCE: 2002 Dyna wide glide. Will not IDLE

not running for a year! You have a varnish buildup in the low end circuit of the carb. You will need to remove the carb and do a full teardown of the carb to properly rectify this problem. SOMETIMES we are able to free up the passages by putting SEA FOAM cleaner in the tank , fill her up with fresh fuel and ride through the tank and it will clear up. SEA FOAM can be purchased at an auto parts store and is sometimes very effective. 1/4 cup to full tank fuel.

Turn switch on and dash has power but nothing else

More than likely it is the ignition switch or wiring to it. If brake light or horn is working then check red/black wire from ignition switch for 12 volts. This wire feeds the headlight and ignition circuit.

Have a 2006 dyna wide glide foot brake light brake light hand brake does not replaced lever wherte is the brake switch

The front brake switch is located inside the right handlebar control. It is a plunger type switch. The correct way to install a new one is to solder the wires on the new switch to existing wires from the old switch. Cut the wires about 2 inches or so from the old switch. Be careful when reinstalling the front lever or you may damage the plunger on the new switch.

2001 hd dyna wide glide brake light does not come on when brakes are applied , tail light works, bulb is ok , is it the brake sensor ,where is it located and what does it look like thanx

Your Wide Glide has two brake light switches. One is in the right handlebar switch housing and operated by a tang on the front brake lever. If it's not working you probably have a bad switch up there as well. The rear brake switch is underneath the bike. Find the metal line coming out of the rear brake master cylinder. Follow this line back towards the rear brake. You should find a "tee" fitting with a small switch screwed into it. It'll have two wire plugs with about four wires on it unless they've changed something. You'll know it when you see it. Replace this switch first. Since the front brake light works off this switch as well, it may fix the front brake light switch as well. If not, you'll have to take the right handlebar switch housing apart to get to the front switch.

Good Luck

Brought LED back light the wires black, red, yellow, the old back light on my bike as two bulbs with six wires 2 x red 2 x blue 2 x black n yellow.three too each bulb when i connect my new light too bike...

Hi, firstly dont think for a miniute that the black wire on your new light is the earth, using the battery as a power source put one of the wires to earth and the other to live, as the led light will only work if the power is conected to the rite pole it is important to establish wich of the new wires is earth, you may have to swap them around to get the correct order, and then conect each of the other wires to the batt poss to check the lite works, when you are happy you have the correct order you can fit it to the bike, on the kawasaki blk and yellow is earth , although you have 6wires they are only 3wires in the loom wich double up to 6 for the 2 bulbs in the lite unit, you can leave 1 of eah colour disconected,

The rear brake light on my 2001 wide glide does not not work when applying the brake. I put in a fresh oem 2 filament bulb to replace a burned out one and now the light is on but the brake function is not...

If you're sure the bulb and socket are alright, there are two brake light switches. The front brake light switch is located inside the right handlebar switch housing. To get get to it, you have to disassemble the switch housing. Loosen the two bolts that hold the front master cylinder on and slide it towards the center of the handlebars. Now, take the two bolts that hold the switch housing halves together out. Carefully seperate the two halves. There are lots of wires in there. You'll have to loosen and remove both the throttle and idle cables to get the throttle sleeve and right grip off the handlebars. Now, the lower part of the switch housing is loose and you can get to the brake light switch that sticks out of the switch house towards the Front master cylinder. If you desolder the wires, you can replace the switch, resolder the wires. Put the switch housing back together being careful not to pinch any of the wires. Reassemble and adjust the thottle sleeve and check for the proper operation of the throttle.

The rear brake light is controlled by a rear brake pressure switch located beneath the bike. Find the rear master cylinder and the metal brake line that comes out of it and goes towards the back of the bike. Follow the line and you'll find a tee with the switch in it. Simply screw the old switch out and screw the new one in. Do not depress the brake pedal with the switch out of the line.

Make sure you do these jobs correctly. If the throttle doesn't snap shut, work with it until it does. Check the brakes and make sure they work. If the throttle or the brakes do not work as they should, you could lose control of the motorcycle and suffer severe injuries or death.

Good Luck

2000 dyna wide glide. my tail light is out and my brake light only works with the hand brake. the bulb is new. what can i do to fix this?

Ok for the brake light, the pressure switch for the rear brake may be bad. Find the rear brake master cylinder and follow the metal brake line that comes out of it going to the rear of the bike. You'll find a tee fitting in the line with the pressure switch screwed into it. Check to make sure the wires are plugged onto the spade connectors. If they are, the switch is probably bad and needs to be replaced. Simply screw the old one out and screw the new one in. Do not depresses the rear brake pedel while the switch is out of the line.

As for the tail light, if the bulb is good, you have a wiring problem and need to find where the wires is broken.

Good Luck

97 fxdl, difference between narrow/wide glide componants

You need the complete front end including the wheel. The FXDWG is somewhat of an oddball in that a lot of parts fit only that bike. A lot of other parts will not fit a Wide Glide. This even applies to the exhaust system.

Measure the diameter of your upper fork tubes, they're 39 mm tubes. The Wide Glide uses 41 mm tubes. The Wide Glide also uses a 21" front wheel.
