I have a 2006 Ford F 250 Super Duty this is the third time the horn has gone off and continues to blow until it dies. Then the horn ceases to work. Had the Clock spring repaired and that seemed to be fine for 2 months and now it has happened again. We had a heavy rain today. It has only happened in cold weather and the temperatures have dropped to the low 40s tonight after being in the 70s This is a $400 repair everytime and is getting pretty frustrating.

this is caused by a defective horn switch pad, replace it.

I think you are right.Find the short and repair it or you can try to take the bulb out of the dome light and keep the switch on and see if that helps but you won't have a dome light.

This is a common problem in F series pickups -- up under your dash above your fuse box or in that area is your (gem module) this controls your horn, speedo, ligths.ect.. most likely has water inside or moisture -- you may be able to take the top off of it and dry it out with a dryer...

The horn location is on the radiator support.

I would trace the wire from the horn and see if it was inadvertently damaged when the alternator was installed. If you have a voltmeter, you can remove the horn fuse and check to see if there is continuity between the horn (non hot side) of the fuse and the car body. This would indicate a short in the wire running from the fuse box to the horn. You can also look around the alternator mounting area to see if any wires are being pinched. Hope this helps. Good luck!
