Hi, Anonymous if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will not idle unless the choke is full on and run poorly then stall, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition and in the future pour in a bottle of fuel stabilizer and injector cleaner for you FI folks at least 2 times a year and before storage.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or more, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper "LOAD" test on the battery and replace as necessary, you may have 12.5 volts or better but little or zero amps, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and the battery needs to be replaced.

5. Remove and inspect your air cleaner paper elements that are not oil soaked can be cleaned with a soft brush and low pressure compressed air, oil soaked elements must be replaced. Gause mesh and foam elements can be cleaned by soaking them in a container big enough to completely cover them with a solution of 1 gallon of water and 1 oz. of Dawn dishwashing liquid for small and medium size elements, for monster size double the formula and let soak for at least one hour then rinse with warm water shake off excess and let air dry, "WARNING" do not use compressed air as this will embed micro-sized dirt and road grime and destroy the mesh pattern and stretch foam elements out of shape just squeeze it like a sponge and let air dry, use a fan if you're in a hurry. When completely dry spray a very fine mist of air filter oil evenly around the whole element.
6. Remove the carburetors, disassemble and decontaminate with a "CARB DIP" or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Check intake manifold and seals for leaks and cracks.
8. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove, clean, and inspect fuel and vacuum lines and replace as necessary.
9. Replace spark plugs with new ones and check for spark.

SOURCE: engine is not getting fuel to rear cylinder

Check your carb floats. Had similar problem and that's what it was.

SOURCE: It cranks good...idles good...will not take

cylinder head is getting red hot because it's running lean. Check to see if there is an aftermarket fuel filter in the fuel line somewhere, also the float hight in the carbs are set right. Also drain the fuel tank and apply fresh fuel. Check to see if the tank is rusted, also if it has a device at the bottom of the gas tank that turns on and shuts off the fuel (petcock) it's possible it has a fuel flilter in there as well.

*Note if you take the petcock off you will more than likely have to replace agasket for it. Given the age of the bike it will be hard to find a gasket.

I have a 93 sportster 1200 thats kinda hard to start dosent want to idll


On pretty much ALL Harley's (and all other air cooled V-Twins), the rear cylinder runs hotter because the front cylinder tends to semi-block the airflow coming to it.

You have only one carb, so if it was jetted right for one cylinder, the other cylinder wouldn't be too far off.

Most likely from your description (rear cylinder quits how ever at above 1700 rpms, sputters from time to time on rear cylinder, rear plug is a lot cleaner than front one), I would look at an air leak (common on Harley's) where the intake manifold joins the rear cylinder head, and/or an exhaust leak at the rear pipe.

If you're getting fire, but the cylinder isn't getting hot (I always check the exhaust pipe near where it exits the head), possibly you're not getting air/fuel mixture to that cylinder.

Is the intake valve opening?
Check valve adjustment?

Firing order is 1-3-4-2 #1 is the left rear cylinder #3 right rear, #2 left front and of course #4 is right front cylinder. Please rate my solution, this was hard to find, allot of misinformation out there on this subject

the firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6

As you standing in front of the vehicle

the coils from left to right are 1-4-6-3-2-5

the rear cylinders from left to right are 1-3-5

the front cylinders are 2-4-6.

No spark to rear cylinders runs good and then runs on one cylinder 1986 honda shadow 1100


try switching the position of the two coils, the plug wires will unscrew off of the coils and that way you dont have to pull the spark plug wires too,(be sure and change the 2 wire couplers too) if your front cylinder stops firing you know its the coil, if the back cylinder still doesn't fire then your coil is good and you either have a bad #2 spark unit or a bad crank pulse generator.

On my pipes one side is hot and the other is cold


Check the pipe right where they come out of the heads. It depends on what type of exhaust system you have on your Road King. If the stock exhaust is on the bike, the rear cylinder exhaust is directed to both mufflers. With the exhaust from the front and part of the exhaust from the rear cylinders going to the right side muffler, it gets more exhaust than the left side and runs hotter. Like I said, check the temp of the exhaust pipes at the cylinder heads. If one of them is cold, that cylinder is not firing. As long as both of the pipes are hot there, you're fine. Just ride the bike and have fun.

Yes i have a 96 chevy lumina i changed the plugs and i think i may have switch the wires but dont know where they go directly

3.1L and 3.4L OHV V-6: The cylinder location is from left to right (rear cylinders) 1,3,5
(front cylinders)2,4,6

The coil terminals from left to right: 5,2,3,6,4,1
Firing order 1,2,3,4,5,6

3.4L DOHC V-6: The cylinder location is from left to right (rear) 1,3,5 (front) 2,4,6
The coil terminals are from front to rear 5,2,3,6,4,1
The firing order 1,2,3,4,5,6

3.8L V-6 cylinders left to right (rear)2,4,6 (front) 1,3,5

Firing order for 2003 (B6) Audi S4 4,2l V8 engine is: 1 - 5 - 4 - 8 - 6 - 3 - 7 - 2
Cylinder no.# 1 is first one from right front side of the car, and cylinder no.# 4 is the fourth one (front to rear) on the right bank of cylinder block. See picture below:

I replaced my spark plug wires on my 1971 vw and got them mixed up please help


The firing order is 1-4-3-2. From looking at the motor, cylinder 1 is right rear, cylinder 2 is right front, cylinder 3 is left rear, and cylinder 4 is left front.
