Question about 2005 Yamaha TW 200

2 Answers

I have a 1997 tw200. It runs and idles fine, but the second I put it into gear it dies. It sounds electrical not mechanical. Rode the bike less than a week ago and it ran like a top. I even tried going directlyinto second gear. It instanly dies like some kind of sensor is out of whack or something. It sounds like a kill switch is getting activated when I put it in gear....

Sound like it could be a problem with the side-stand cut-off switch. (It is to prevent you riding away with the side-stand down.) They are notorious for getting crud in them and sticking.

Hope this helps!

Is your side stand down when you put it into gear? There is a switch that prevents you for driving off with it down. Sometimes this switch sticks (mud dirt water) even when the side stand is up. I would check this safety feature .

125cc Kawasaki dirt bike, cranks on first kick, idles but won't run in any gear, doesn't die out but doesn't seem to engage gear, possible problems?

Does it jerk forward when you put it into gear and die? Or you put it into gear and the bike doesn't move when you let the clutch out? Badly adjusted clutch in both cases. Worst case, you need new clutch plates and springs.

After starting my Roadstar in neutral, as soon as I put it in gear, it dies. It reacts to the shift, not the clutch. Is it electrical? Mechanical? I need help troubleshooting. thanks.

With the engine off, put it in gear and pull the clutch lever. If the bike rocks freely back and forth, the clutch is releasing correctly and eliminates mechanical problems. The only possible electrical problem would be a wiring fault involving a gear position indicator (if the bike has such a thing). If it does have such an indicator, find the switch (on either side of the transmission case) and disconnect the wiring (plug?) Try the bike again. If it now keeps running, I'd suspect some form of cross wiring short within the wiring harness. If it does not run at all, then the bike probably won't start and run except in neutral--hook up the switch again. Did this problem start suddenly, or after a repair of some sort???

I have a 01 rm 125. Just overhauled the engine, but when I rode the bike it does not want to go into second gear from first. It stops in neutral and does not want to go into second. Once it is in second...

if all other gears shif fine, only thing possibly wrong is the shifting mechanism, like bent fork, washer on shaft in the wrong spot etc most likely during overhaul, something was not put back in the right place

1994 r1100gs wont run rode fine went for lunch starts idles dies throttle turn dies has spark fuel new battery full charge ran fine for four hours on the way to bellacoola filled up with gas good gas...

It can only be one of three things (maybe 4!) - fuel, air, spark. It ran fine for 4 hours, the only thing that has changed is new fuel. I would check the fuel.
The 4th thing is - mechanical break in some component, but it being a BMW boxer and the fact you rode it for 4 hours without a hitch, I'm ruling that out - for now...

Well, depending on what your mechanical skills are, it may be tough to troubleshoot and fix your problem. I have the same exact bike, and it along with all other sport bikes are tough to work on because everything is very confined. You first have to start with the basics, Fuel, Spark, and Compression. Your going to have to get the fairings off and remove the gas tank before you test any of that. Once the tank is off, you can get access to the spark plugs and wires to do a spark test. Also while you are there, check to make sure the carb is getting sufficient fuel, or even possibly too much fuel. Leaky needle and seats in the carb bowls can cause lots of problems for starting and idling. And please don't blow yourself up! Exposed gas and spark test can equate to big flame balls if your not careful. If you need more help, I'd be willing to do what I can for you so shoot me an email at jmegashiftstyle@aol.com.

Starts fine. sounds fine but dies upon putting it in gear

Your kickstand switch is either broken or out of position. The bike kills the engine as a safety feature if it thinks the sidestand is down and the bike is put in gear while the engine is running.
