SOURCE: valve noise 2006 road king

Hello redevil67...This is normal for the HD engine, it going to have valve train, top end noise at some point, some as early as 2000 miles. If you take it to the dealer they will try to sell you on worn tappets...key word here SELL..I've seen this many times, dealer replaces componets, 2000 miles later the noise returns.
These are hydraulic valves and as you probably know they operate at zero lash. Personaly, i feel that the problem is that the cams are not hardened properly or machined incorrectly.. When the leading edge of the cam lobes wear to a strange profile it tends to snap the lifter up in the lifter bore. This causes the rest of the valve train to rattle. You hear the noise on top but the culprit makin it, is the cams..Many chose to go with an aftermarket cam, such as an andrews...Another suggestion, is to switch oils. Don't know what you are useing now, but i'm not a fan of dino oil. As the temperature builds the more an oil is stressed. Lucas full synthetic 20w-50 or Mobil1 15w-50 are both excellent for anti-wear and long term protection.
I hope this helps, please rate me a fixya and good luck with your bike.

SOURCE: oil change procedure 2000 road king

the oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission in your RK. There are two drain plugs. The plug towards the front left of the pan is the oil drain plug. The other one is for the transmission.

Drain the oil, replace the filter, refill with three quarts of oil and you're ready to go. The dipstick has two marks on it. The upper mark is "FULL HOT", and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Do not overfill.

Don't forget to service the transmission and the primary at their recommended intervals.

Good Luck
steve

2006 road king dead battery, when I try to jump start jumpers get hot,bad battery or starter problem.

Hi, Dave before testing any electrical component in the Starter Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter have failed or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
14. Check for engine trouble codes.

I have a 2003 road king it want start just make a clicking sound

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1.Ignition/Light Key Switch not in IGNITION position.
2.Engine Stop switch in the OFF position.
3.Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to Ignition
5. Starter control circuit, relay or solenoid faulty.
6. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or over-running clutch slipping.

My 1999 road king classic will not start, fuel pump is good and battery is good. all I hear is clicking noise when try to start

Hi Anonymous, first when checking anthing in the starter circuit you must make sure the battery connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends and has a 12.5 volt or better charge. It must not fall below 9 volts during the cranking procedure with a volt meter hooked up. If it does fall below 9 volts do a proper load test on the battery and replace if necessary. Second replace the starter relay cheap $6 and make sure it's well grounded and getting 11.5 volts or better to activate. Third remove the back cover of the solenoid and de-arc/refurbish the contact plate and shoes making sure they are tight. If it still chatters replace the solenoid. Good luck

My 2006 road king Harley won't start after riding over a curb

You didn't describe the "click"

A series of rapid clicks means a low battery, or a bad (usually ground) connection, like if you crunched/abraded a wire along the lower frame when you drive over a curb.

A single, loud click indicates its a bad starter relay, about a $12 part:

Shaking and vibration is normal for most Harleys, it's caused by the angle of the twins, it's normal for mostly all Harley motorcycles.
