I have 03 kawasaki praire 650 v-twin its backfiring through front carb and wont run whats wrong

Backfiring through a carb is indicative of over advanced ignition. The spark is firing the fuel too early and exploding through the carburettor, instead of firing the piston over Top Dead Centre (TDC).

Another possibility is a damaged valve, do a compression test and get the timing checked.

1973 100 G5 2 Stroke. Why won't it start?

Fully charge the battery. Make sure the spark plug is correctly gapped. Make sure you get a nice fat BLUE spark. Check the cylinder for compression? Heat the spark plug up on the gas stove or with a blowlamp. Apply the choke and try again.

When was the last time it ran?

I wish I still had my 1971 Kawasaki H1 500 triple! I used to do Enduro on a Honda SL125.

spark plugs, fuel filter, carb, coil, ignition, fuel line. Any of these could be wrong and even quite a few other things could be wrong. More information on what it does and does not do when you try to start it is needed. Does it have compression, does it have spark, does it have clean fuel. Has this been stored for a long time?

Model 175. Engine cranks will not start. What are to check out.

Hello David,
Three main things to check out are compression, spark and fuel. I would purchase a compression tester from a local parts store, they are fairly cheap and easy to use. Simply remove spark plug and screw tester into spark plug threads and turn engine over. Observe readings, you should have at least 60 psi. If not problem is internal and needs to be torn town. If compression is good, check spark with a spark tester, (also available from local parts stores). They simply plug inline between spark plug and boot. Turn engine over and observe sight glass in tester, you should see spark in sight glass when turning over. If compression and spark are both good, check fuel line to carburetor too see if its getting fuel, if not clean tank of obstruction, if it is hook line back up. If you are now getting fuel to carb, next remove air cleaner and spray a small amount of starting fluid into carb and attempt to start. If it starts temporarily and bogs down, you know the problem is carburation, because the engine is burning up the starting fluid as fuel, when the starting fluid is burned up, unit dies. Then carb will need to be removed and cleaned. Good luck and happy wrenching!

My 1974 Yamaha 250 Enduro wont start I have cleaned and redone the carb. I have changed the coil pack and spark plug. Any suggestions will help Im not a mechanic by any means so not sure where to start...

you need good compression ( at least 90 psi , kicking it with the throttle open) , good crankshaft seals for sucking the fuel/air into the botton end, proper point gap and timing set for spark ( spark should be big and fat,if not the source coil is weak,, this is a flywheel magnito ignition and it needs no battery to fire the plug) if you clean the carb, make sure you also clean the choke pickup tube or it wont choke. also make sure you have the slide installed in the right direction ( not backwards and the idle is not set too high at first...compression/****-good spark at the right time-proper fuel/air ratio and it will run

It wontt start it has spark

There are only three things that your bike needs to start, Spark, Compression and Fuel, if you say that it has spark and compression then the problem has to be fuel, Make sure that there are no blockages in the line from the tank to the carb, if that is not the problem then you will have to pull the carb and clean out all the ports. I disassemble them as much as possible and empty a can of carb cleaner into a clean coffee can let it soak overnight and then blow out all passages with compressed air and reassemble. You should also pull off your reed cage and check to make sure that your reeds aren't cracked or broke. If your bike was runninng before and you give your carb a good cleaning and the reeds look good and it still doesn't work then you are going to have to look at the other two requirements, your spark should be a bright blue, if not try a spark plug first (you may want to try that before the carb cleaning) next you should get a compression tester and check the compression to make sure it is high enough. Your bike might feel like it has lots of compression but it might be low enough to make it hard to start.
