SOURCE: bike won't start, new Harley

I'm not too familiar with the later model bikes but if I were getting a clicking noise under the seat and the bike was not starting, I'd investigate the source of the noise. It's possible that it is a starter relay that engages the solenoid that is an integral part of the starter. Look at the starter from the right hand side of your bike. You'll see a single small wire that connects to the end of the starter just above the end plate of the solenoid. Disconnect this wire and connect a test light or volt meter to the wire. Turn on your ignition switch and press the start button. You should hear the click under the seat and see voltage at the end of that wire. If not, replace the relay, a plastic cube about an inch in dimension.

Good Luck
Steve

Hi, Paul if your battery is more than 4 years old it may have enough voltage but not enough amperage to start the bike I would recommend having it load tested, for more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the blue links below and for more specific information or questions at no charge please feel free to contact me at xlch@mail.com. Need to know what your air cleaner is like, what your running fuel pressure is and what your battery voltage is like and then you are a long ways towards a solution.

2006 1200 portster new battery new starter wont start or turn over

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1.Ignition/Light Key Switch not in IGNITION position.
2.Engine Stop switch in the OFF position.
3.Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to Ignition
5. Starter control circuit, relay or solenoid faulty.
6. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or over-running clutch slipping.
For a prime suspect please visit website below and good Luck.

Electrical Problem

Your alternator/generator must be not working. If it works, it should be able to recharge the battery when your bike is running.

2006 Harley Street Bob will not start

Sounds like the battery is bad - no amperage --- If you had the battery load tested & you know it's good, reset the TSSM. The procedure will be in the owners manual.

Rode home new 883;, next morning bike wouldnt start, battery weak. would not turn engine over. bike is 2009 with 40 miles, bought from dealer

how old is your battery? if it is 2 to 3 years old it may need to be
replaced . charge it up and see if it keeps charge, crank your bike
run it for a short time 4 or 5 min. shut it , and try to start it. if it
drags when cranking go buy new battery.

2006 fxdi I can turn on the key and run switch the bike runs it diagnostic check and as soon as I hit the start switch I lose all power. The bike has a new battery and was just serviced.

Ring the service center and hit them up with your problem. It sounds like the computer is either swithching everything off because there is a greater problem that it is protecting.
