Engine Rev goes too high on Starting the engine

I am stuck up with a problem which I believed changing Carburetor will help but it hasnt. Whenever I start my engine, the engine rev goes 3000 rpm and it takes 5 - 10 seconds to return to 1000 rpm.. While riding, it creates a problem as I release my acceleration, it takes 5 - 10 seconds to reduce the speed. I tried adjusting the pin for throttle ( that comes with the carburetor ). When I reduce it, the bike engine goes off withing 5 seconds in Neutral if I am not accelerating. Increasing the pin causes the above said increased rev problem. :( the bike also stammers a lot between 2 - 4 gears and runs without problem only if I keep accelerating. Please Advise.

Hi Arul
If there is no air leak between carb. and engine and you are positive that there is a good seal, then check from the back end of carb (intake) if the round slide is returning to the bottom when throttle grip is released. It should not at any stage slow down before fast idle screw stops it. If the slide does not return to the bottom by the time the throttle grip is returned, your throttle cable is sticky or damaged.
Lube the cable with sewing machine oil from the top and work it loose manually, other wise it will need to be replaced
Give it a shot!

It sounds like you installed a new carburetor and the problem remains. You may have a vacuum leak between the carb and the engine allowing in too much air and causing a lean fuel/air condition leading to high revs. Check your vacuum lines for cracks, check your carb holder for cracks or gaps, listen closely for an air leak. Replace any cracked lines or carb holder with new, or a temporary fix may be done by sealing the carb holder with a silicone adhesive to stop the leak.

As Arul said look for intake leak. Replace the intake manifold o-ring. High idles that take time to return to normal lower idles are also caused by leak conditions (intake leak, or mixture screw, or idle jet too small). Is your 125 a 2 stroke, or 4 stroke?

Also if the the engine is a 125 4 stroke check the plastic spacer in between the carburetor and intake manifold for cracks. If it has a spacer you will need (2) intake o-rings.

has nothing to do with start circuit. there is a spring that need to be bent at the metal arm that holds it to set your rpm up. or if you have a cable loosen it and adjust to correct rpm. do not over rev.

I have a 2000 elantra it starts but when you press on th accelerator it boggsdown only goes about 10mph

First of all, are you able to rev up the motor soon after starting to let's say 3000 rpm's? And I mean easily! If not, then it's not in your drivetrain (engine/transmission), but more likely perhaps stuck brakes or slipping

Not Accelerating beyond 40-50 kmph

NOT clutch issue - if it was the clutch the rpms would rev out but bike would go no faster.
Sounds like carburetor may be partially plugged up, main jet.
Or air filter needs replacing.

That sounds like the the temperture sensor. that is what works the revs when the car is cold, is should be at the front of the engine. hope that helps

My RPM is always at 3000

it sounds like you have a stuck IAC, Idle Air Control Valve. It meters air in when the throttle plate is colosed (foot off gas).

Autozone can scan for fault codes for free.

May just need cleaning. Try that first.

Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve —2.0L SPI Removal
  1. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector (air cleaner outlet tube removed for clarity).
  1. Remove the IAC valve.
  1. Remove and discard the IAC valve gasket.

1992 ford bronco (full size)

that's a huge vacuum leak. Block off intake ^ spray a little starting fluid caefully around top of engine to find when engine revs. That will locate leak. Have a fire extinuisher nearby just in case. IAC could be stuck open.
