Drain the coolant
undo the top and bottom radiator pipes
undo the 4 bolts holding it in place
get it repaired
and put back together in the reverse

Not knowing car year etc, normally the transmission cooler lines are connected by a compression fitting. The compression "nut" is about 1.5 " long and screws onto the male fittings on the radiator. They are usually quite tight to prevent leakage of fluid. I recommend a repair manual from your local repair parts store. It should be a lot more accurate than my educated guess.

How to remove a radiator

Without visually seeing your vehicle, you basically have to drain the radiator at the drain valve (sometimes referred to as the petcock) at the bottom corner of your radiator into a drain pan. Then in no particular order remove both upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove the electric fans if so equipped, (carefully remove all electrical connectors as not to break them in the process) and set it aside. Then remove the transcooler lines top and bottom, carefully removing the retaining clips holding these lines on. Again let these lines drain the fluid into a pan and if possible save this fluid in a clean manner so that it can be put back in the vehicle. Then remove any brackets holding the radiator in place including those attached to the condensor that sit in front of the radiator if it is attached directly to the radiator. Of course their may be other parts attached that must be removed depending on your model, but that is the basics of removing it from the vehicle.Then reverse the process in installing the new radiator, Putting either the anti-freeze/coolant that you drained out back in or replacing it with a fresh fifty-fifty mixture of anti-freeze /coolant. Making sure the transmission fluid is topped off to the proper amount of fluid or if you were able to save the fluid put it back in. Another factor is getting the transcooler lines snapped back in properly as to not have them popping apart going down the road. But the largest most important factor when installing the new radiator is to be extremely careful not to ding or damage the fins of the new radiator because they will leak and you will not be able to repair them unless you are extremely talented at radiator repair. Need to no how to replace a radiator

Remove the hoses and transmission cooler lines. Remove the radiator retaining bolts and dis-connect fan control wiring. Remove radiator and fans together. It is possible to remove just the radiator but you risk damaging surrounding parts. "O" I almost forgot by a box of bandages.

When you say repair,I assume that road debris hit & damaged it

You remove the radiator to get access to the condensor,not
evaporator. That is the part inside the vehicle that gets cold

The condensor removes heat,that is why it is in front of radiator
in air stream

You need that work done buy someone trained on A/C work as the system
has to have the refrigerant recovered & a vacuum pulled before recharging

Not a home driveway job.

How to remove radiator fan?

Hi. Here's the procedure if you are going to replace the radiator fan.

Things You'll Need:
  • New radiator
  • Container for old coolant
  • Set of socket wrenches
  • Ford disconnect tools or crescent wrenches
  • Flush treatment
  • Coolant
  • 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent damage to any electrical parts. Open the drain **** on the lower rear of the radiator, remove the radiator cap and drain the coolant into an empty container. Remove the overflow tube from the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle.
  • 2 Unbolt the shroud with a 10 mm socket wrench and position it over the fan, out of the way. For a 5.0 liter engine on a 1991 through 2001 Explorer, also disconnect the electric fan wires and remove the radiator shroud. For a 4.6 liter SOHC engine, remove the A/C tubing from the retainer clips on top of the radiator.
  • 3 Use a Ford model specific disconnect tool to remove the transmission coolant lines on an automatic transmission. You can use two crescent wrenches as a substitute for the disconnect tool, just be careful not to twist the lines.
  • 4 Remove the four bolts holding the radiator in place with a 10 mm socket wrench. Place a piece of cardboard on the side of the radiator facing the engine as you remove it, to prevent damage to any engine components.
  • 5 Crawl under your Explorer and take the cooling fan out for 2002 and newer models. Again, you need some Ford specific disconnect tools to do this. Remove the fan bolts as well as the shroud, followed by the 4 radiator push pins. Also remove the A/C condenser brackets near the rear of the radiator, and wire the A/C condenser in place to keep it from getting damaged.
  • 6 Remove the radiator from the engine compartment. Models made between 1991 and 2001 will let you lift the radiator out by itself. For a 2002 or newer model, pull the radiator up, rest it on the wall of the engine compartment, and separate the A/C condenser from the radiator.
  • 7 Install the new radiator in the engine compartment. Once you have it resting in place, reattach all components in reverse order. Use a flush treatment, then replace the coolant. Turn the car on and let the car idle, with the heater on and the radiator cap removed, until it reaches normal operating temperature. Top off your coolant as needed.

    Need to remove and replace a radiator

    You will need to remove the headlamps, bumper skin, radiator support, and unbolt the a/c condensor from the radiator. With some time, a metric socket rail and patience you can take it out, it's pretty easy. Just make sure you don't damage the condensor or new radiator during repair.

    replace? disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, remove the serpentine belt, drain the radiator, remove the upper radiator hose to let the coolant drain from the engine, remove the hoses on the pump, remove the bolts holding the water pump on (if you're not sure which one, look at the belt diagram in the engine compartment on the passenger side. keep in mind, some coolant will still be in there), remove the pump (may need to knock it loose. do not use a screwdriver to pry it off. this will damage the metal and will not make a proper seal), gently remove all of the leftover seal from the engine, replace the seal and the pump, hand tighten all of the screws, then tighten them down, replace the hoses, fill the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water, reconnect the battery, start it up. top off the radiator if necessary. put some extra in the overflow tank.
