Normally there is a switch attached to the brake pedal which turns on the break light. You can find it with close visual inspection.Check its attachment wire, spring and if required replace the switch

SOURCE: brake light stays on

The problem is with one of the brake lite switches. If you were recently inside the front handlebar controls, I would check that one first.

SOURCE: brake light stays on

hand break switch was broken (inside the wire housing) not allowing the hand break lever to deactive, therefore causing the brake system to stay on.

SOURCE: brake lever has slop in it brake light stays on when on accellin

there is a nyliner ( nylon bushing) around the pin on the pivot of the lever. start by replacing that- it is very inexpensive and easy to replace. while you have the lever off check the brake switch for proper function- it should switch on and off easily with just a simple push and release of a small screwdriver or punch.

SOURCE: brake light staying on seems to be at the pedal the problem

it has a brake light switch connected in the line with a T connector between the rear master cylinder and the rear caliper, sounds like the switch is stuck, locate the switch and unplug it to see if it goes out,if so prolly faulty switch unless caliper is stuck

SOURCE: brake lights stay on

Ok, the brake light is turned on when the brake lever is pulled. The switch is actually located in the right switch housing along with the right turn signal switch, starter switch, and throttle. It's simple button switch. When the lever is pulled, it pivots on the pivot pin and small tang on the bottom side to the lever swings FORWARD releasing the swith turning on the light. When you let go the tang swing backwards depressing the button turning off the light.

Loosen the bolts that hold your front brake master cylinder to the handlebar and slide the master cylinder back towards the switch houslng as far as you can. They should be touching. If the light still won't turn off, you'll have to take the right hand switch housing apart and replace the small switch.

Good Luck
Steve

Abs light stays on and brake light on 98 durango

The regular brake warning light is for the parking brake being applied or the brake fluid is low. You would need to get the abs system scanned for trouble codes to proceed.

2004 vt 1100 c brake light stays on

Hi, Anonymous before diagnosing any brake light issue always check the bulb and fuse first for integrity a brake light staying on is usually caused by the front brake light switch, which is mechanical, not disengaging. On early models moving the throttle control housing closer to the front brake master cylinder is the main fix. On late models, the switch gets tweaked and needs to be realigned. A brake light that does not come on when the brake lever is applied can be caused by a faulty switch or no continuity in the wiring at the switch. The rear brake light switch is hydraulic and it is extremely rare to malfunction in a closed circuit condition causing the brake light to stay on. Usually, rear brake light switch issues are caused by no brake pedal free play or a sticky rear master cylinder piston. A brake light that does not come on when the rear brake pedal is depressed can be caused by a faulty switch, air contamination in the brake line, or no continuity in the wiring at the switch.

Brake lights stay on

The warning light on the dash, or the brake lights in the back of the car ? ?
The brake fluid could be low or the parking brake switch could be faulty if the warning light is on.
The brake light switch on the pedal could be faulty if the brake lights are staying on.

We have an Audi TT and the brake lights stay on after you turn the car off. Also noted that a passing car informed us that the brake lights stay on while driving as well. Could this possible be a switch...

If all the brake lights stay on then the brake light switch is the first thing to check. It cod also be dagger wiring to the switch or it may just be loose and/or out of place.

Brake light stays on just happened 143000 miles

Check your brake switch as it could be faulty hence causing a close circuit which in turn causes the brake light to stay on.It is normally located at the top of the brake pedal.Hope this helps.
