Hi Anonymous, check the switch connector for corroded or loose pins. you can check continuity with a test lite the voltage going into and coming out of the switch should match battery voltage 12.5 volts or better. If you are not getting the matching battery voltage going in the take your test lite and volt meter and start with the battery that must have clean tight connections, and work your way back to the switch. If can't find anything wrong replace the ignition switch. 2005 Honda XR 125 L keeps cutting out


Hi, Billy and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, stator, magneto, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
11. Accelerator pump damaged or not working.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Fuel tank empty.
15. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
16. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
17. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
18. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
19. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.

I have an old XL-xr 250 honda Motorbike i think its a 1985? model from all the pics i have found. i want to wire it up so its just the most basic bits on it. no lights or starter button required just kick...


I don't know if the Honda you have can be wired that way. Most Honda's are set up to draw ignition power from a battery. This means you need a voltage regulator/rectifier, etc.Some XR's come with a headlight and a taillight, handy for getting out of the woods after dark. If you have an XL you will probably have to use the XR stator,harness,and CDI to convert it to no battery. The plate on your frame neck should have the model number on it. I would check the dirt rider forums (advrider and others)and see if you can find someone who has converted your model.

After starting my motor it back fire is timeing off or what on a fj 1200 yamaha


ignition timing should not change(electronic ignition), if it runs reasonable valve timing is probably ok,
back fire can be lean fuel mixture, low voltage, intake leaks, exhaust leaks, tight valve clearance, burnt valve, loose electrical plug on ignition system, shorting cut off switch, including, clutch lock out and side stand switches

I am looking to print of a wireing diagram for a honda XR 125 l 2003 as i have a problem with it not sparking please could you help


remove the tank and look for the black and white wire going in to the CDI disconect it and see if you have spark. If you have look at the kill switch or ignition switch or wiring...This wire has to make contact with the frame to kill the engine....If you stiil have no spark let me know and Ill email you one...

Wheres the battery???


Hi ..... Do you have an ignition switch ? I'm sure all the early XR's didn't have a battery or ignition switch .............. just kick and go. Fitted with an ignition pack, you kick and it generates sparks. In the UK if you used one on the road insurance wouldn't cover you for Theft as they were too easy to steal.
