Check oil

Hi Anonymous, the engine oil dipstick on Softail and Sportster models is located on the right hand front side of the oil tank and the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up and dipstick all the way in, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. On Dyna and Touring models The engine oil dipsticks are located on the right front top corner of the transmission and the engine oil pan is underneath the transmission. The engine oil level is checked in the same manner as Softails and Sportsters. If you are having oil carryover or breathing issues (dipstick launch) try running oil level half way between the add and full marks, running the engine at this oil level will not harm normal operation. Good luck

Check oil on 2002 Sportster

Hi Anonymous, the engine oil dipstick on later models unscrews, on earlier models it just pulls out with moderate force, on Softail and Sportster models the dipstick is located on the right hand front side of the oil tank and the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up and dipstick all the way in, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. Need to locate engine oil drain plug so i can replace the oil

I am referring to the drain pan on the Harley Davidson Twin cam 88 engine.

The engine oil drain hex bolt is located on the right side of the motorcycle (as you are seated on it) and is removed/installed horizontally.

Transmission oil drain hex bolt is located on the left side of the motorcycle (as you are seated on it) and is removed/installed vertically.

Where is the oil drain plug on a 1994 harley flhtc.there is two plugs on the bottom of the motor don't know which one it is fron or back plug

Usually the engine oil drain is the plug closest to the front left of the oil pan. The drain in the center of the pan is the transmission drail. If you do accidently drain the transmision, refill it with 20-24 oz. of transmission lube. Do not use the Syn3 20W50 oil. It won't hurt the transmission but the transmission gear whine will be loud. Use the H-D semi-synthetic tranny lube.

Good Luck
Steve

I wont to change my oil and filter. where is the drail plug on my 03 heritage softtail clasic?

I'm not familiar with every year model but most of the time on a Softail, the oil drain is a hose that runs down the frame on the right side of the bike. It ends down low just behind the transmission. There is a plug in the hose, remove the plug to drain the oil.
