SOURCE: 1988 Heritage Softail, electrical problem,

Probably time for a new battery. But first, check to be sure that water covers the top of the battery plates. Add water if needed.

SOURCE: Harley won't start ... starter not working

That clicking sound you are hearing may be a circuit breaker tripping indicating a short circuit somewhere. I think the starter circuit is powered by the ignition circuit. If you have a short circuit in your ignition system the breaker will trip killing power to your ignition, thus the engine dying, and preventing power for the starter circuit preventing the bike from being restarted.

On your bike, I believe there is a chrome coil cover over the coil on the left side of the bike. Check and see if this cover has come loose. I've seen them come loose and fall down on the coil connector on top of the coil shorting it out. If that ain't it, just keep looking, there's a short somewhere. Good Luck

The accessories switch on my 2000 heritage softail classic will not engage. Removed and cleaned switch, reinstalled, turned switch to accessories before complete reinstall. Brake, horn, signal

Hi, Derrill you need to check the ignition switch for continuity in all positions with a test light or multimeter the accessory circuit energizes the speedometer backlight, rear tail light, brake light, and horn only if none of these components are working in the accessory switch position check the accessory fuse. For this scenario, you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the best tool you ever bought for your Harley, despair not, for a mere $7 you can download another one. 2002 HD Heritage Softail Classic - Bike will not start or turn over, nothing happens at all

Hi, Dean and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Security alarm needs a reset.
6. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

2004 Pontiac Aztec won't start the battery was tested its good the starter was tested its good turn the ignition key and nothing happens what else could it be

check for power to the starter solenoid from the ignition switch. IT is the light wire that goes to a terminal on the solenoid between the two large nuts.. If there is no power there then work back to an IGN fusible link next to the battery

2004 FXSTI softail standard fuel pump does not come on when I turn key on and when I try to start It has no spark.

Hi Anonymous, the CKP sensor needs compression to send correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Battery voltage below 8.7 volts, loose or broken battery cables especially ground cable to frame.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, MAP or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
