There is an emergency fuel pump safety shutoff in case of an accident that will automatically shut fuel pump off so fuel does not keep pumping out at the scene of a crash. The reset button is usually in the trunk depending on what vehicle you have. Your manual will identify location for you.

Why does the fuel pump relay don't click when i turn the key to run? and why there is no power at the fuel pump relay?

the operation of most fuel pumps is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator
when the fuel pump gets to set pressure , the pump is switched of by the ECM at the relay level
maybe nothing wrong with your system just the system working as designed
if you have pressure in the fuel manifold when you turn the ignition on then the pump will not run but will if there is a fuel leak somewhere and the pressure drops off

Cant get fuel pump to work

There is also a fuse and a relay, both under the hood. You'll need your owners manual to find the locations (or web search). These cars are also common for bad fuel pumps. You should check for power at the connector near the fuel tank. It only primes for 2-5 seconds when you turn the key on, you will need an assistant to cylce the key. Wait 10 seconds between ignition cycles. The switch in the trunk is an inertia switch that usually only trips under hard impact, like an accident. They can go bad, but it's rare.

Gas gauge quit working, now car won't start

Sounds like you dont have any power going to your fuel pump. You will have to drop your tank and with a light tester check the red wire for power. If you cant tell with one is the red wire it will be the secound wire going into the plug. If you dont have any power there then make sure your fuses are good. You will need help with this because it is very had to reach the key switch and check the wire the same time. It is on a relay switch and only stays on for 5 secounds. Good luck.

Not guessing as to what the problem is , testing for voltage drop problems with a volt meter . posted a video on youtube yesterday . If your still looking for guesses forget it , no one on here could say for sure without testing the circuit an hooking up a scan tool to see if PCM is energizing the relay . Do yourself a favor an take it to a qualified repair shop . Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation If you can't learn how to test from this guy , better take to a repair shop .

I have a 2000 hyundai elantra and it wont start not getting gas cant hear the fuel pump to i thought id look for the inertia switch but have not manual and dont know where it is can you help?

Hello Jeanette: My name is Roger and I will help you. Your car does not have an inertia switch that can be reset. Check the fuses and also make sure the fuel pump relay works. The relay is located in the passenger compartment relay box. Should say relay box on the cover. If all are in working order you will need to test the fuel pump itself. You do not need to remove the fuel tank to do this. Remove the rear seat lower cousion from the car. Remove the inspection cover to gain access to the pump. Unplug the harness and check for voltage when the key is turned on. SHould you have power at the pump plug ? the most likely problem is the fuel pump. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answere. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Fuel pump relay fault Can't find relay. No power to fuel pump. Checked fuses. All good

Model? Year?

Check per owner manual to be sure inertia switch is not tripped. Remember, fuel pump only runs for 5 seconds when key is turned ON, then it shuts off if engine is not running. Pump always runs when key is in START position.
Listen for pump to run inside fuel tank for 5 seconds after key is ON.

The PCM power relay turns on the PCM and the PCM turns on the fuel pump relay, which turns on the fuel pump.

See owner manual forfuse & relay charts.

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Earlier this year it began having starting problems and I learned that the fuel pump was not turning on sometimes when i put the ignition switch to on. (wouldnt hear it) ...

It is most likely the Ignition switch. I have replaced several for this exact simptoms.
To check it, you test the power for the fuel pump relay.
When the ign switch starts acting up it will not power up the fuel pump relay portion of the fues box.
You can check it with a test light.
On a day when it starts and runs fine, pull the fuel pump relay, turn key on and probe the socket with test light and make note which ones have power to them.
Then one day, when it dont start, dont turn the key off yet, pull the relay, and retest, and compare.
If there is no power where there used to be power, replace the ignition switch.
Hope this helps
If it does please leave some testimony

1988 ford truck f-150 xlt lariat cant get current to fuel pump

Have you checked the 'inertia switch' which in the event of an accident shuts off the fuel supply to prevent a fire . It's usually located in the cab on pass. side. Some models have one reset button, some 2 which have to be pressed at the same time. If that's not it, here's how the power to the pump SHOULD work, you will have to follow the path to see where it stops. When you turn the key on it turns on the EEC power relay on, this relay then provides power to the PCM (power control module) and the control side of the fuel pump relay. Power for the fuel pump is supplied through a fuse link or high current fuse attached to the starter solenoid (battery side). From the fuse link or high current fuse current flows thru the fuel pump relay and inertia switch to the fuel pump. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the PCM. When the ignition switch is turned on the fuel pump will operate, if the switch is NOT turned to start position, the PCM will shut off the fuel pump off after 1 second. This is to avoid flooding the engine when it is not running, just key on. So check out to see if you have a fuse link or a high current fuse and if they are blown.
