Yamaha trouble shooting

Just bought a 2008 Yamaha v-star xvs1300. ran great for 100 miles, then I went riding today and there was a lack of power and when I got home the pipe with cat converter was all blue and extreme heat was present. Something to do with the cat, but what??? Thanks in advance. Tom S.

How to find a oil leak in a 2008 Yamaha V-Star 250

Hi, Anonymous due to the magnitude of yesterday's solar flare my night and x-ray vision optical devices have become inoperable so you will have to be my eyes, to find the source of your oil leak, start at the point where you see oil and trace its path going up and forward, if there is too much oil present then buy a spray can of engine degreaser apply it to the affected area then rinse off with a pressure wand or garden hose, use compressed air to blow off excess water or just let it drip dry, take your bike for a 5 mile ride and check for the leaks. I've got a 2008 Yamaha Road Star with Vance & Hines pipes a a Power commander III USB which was dyno-tuned not more than three weeks ago, they created a custom map for me and the bike was running...

Hi, Jeffcitychri the answer to this question is way above my pay grade but I would go back to the Dyno people also for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem.

I have a 2000 yamaha xv1600 roadstar. Went for a ride and made a stop. Everything started and ran great. After the stop I went to crank it up and heard a funny noise near the starter and the nothing. ...

Hi, Pawpaw36507 nice novella and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
11. Check for engine trouble codes.

Have a 06 Yamaha 1100 V-star classic, sat for a while before I bought it, front pipe is starting to blue and the idle increases after ya ride it for a couple miles. bike only has 3300 miles on it. could it...

Hi,

Pipe bluing indicates that cylinder is running lean, therefore too hot. Have you looked at the front spark plug? The insulator should be paper bag tan. Ash white and it's running lean.

The idle going high can be a vacuum leak. You can spray WD-40 (or propane) around the intake flanges when it's running, and if the engine changes speed, you've found the leak.

You might consider contacting Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA - customer relations (800) 962-7926, press "1" for Star Specialist. See if they would consider either exchanging the bike, or sending a factory specialist out to examine your ride.

Fuel leak

The carb/s are flooding , you will have to check the float pin and the float, a good clean with compressed air should do the job, check too the fuel line and the fuel filter.
Hope this helps!
