Check the voltage at the solenoid. If you have a loose cable or broken wire somewhere, as you try to start the bike your voltage will drop below 10v while attempting to start.

The only thing you can do is open the switch there and look. Odds are small it is repairable, most likely you'll have to replace it.

What battery do i fit to replace the old one on a 2005 Harley Davidson Road King Custom?

I'd recommend replacing with a Harley-Davidson AGM battery. They are very good batteries and competitively priced.

2005 FLHRS - FLHRSI Road King Custom: did the 05 road king classic come with or could be...

You could have the dealership install the 103 CI kit if you like but no it didnt come from the factory with that engine in it already, only the CVO bikes such as the FLHRSE and FLHRSEI came with the 103 CI motor installed from the factory.

Replaced battery, bike cranked, after riding 4 miles, just ticks

check battery leads (both ends) , Then make sure battery is charged 100% (verry important) Get out your (Digital) volt meter set it to DC volts Connect leads to the Battery, it should have at least 12.6 v , Watch meter and start engine, if meter drops below 10.0 volts your battery may be weak and will have to be replaced, or your starter is'nt mechanicaly efficient and will have to be fixed or replaced. While engine is running note voltage should be 12.6-13v volts, then rev engine to 3000 RPM , meter should read 13.5- 15 vdc. If not you have a problem with your stator or regulator/rectifier.

yes you should start it at least once weekly to maintain battery and keep engine lubricated, also it keeps fuel flowing through the bike. but dont just start up then switch off, make sure you get it up to normal operating temprature, this keeps moisture out of the engine oil.
