I would adjust the valves since you just bought the quad, for peace of mind, then if the rattle is still there look for a loose part.

I do not know the actual reason why it would do this, but try to tighten every nut and bolt ect. as metal expands when hot and this could mean it then presses against something hence the reason why it stops...... just a thought, hope it helps. :P

98 Timberwolf will not idle and has a rolling rattle sound in crank case sound dose not change when you throttle it up

Sounds like a piece of metal which could be a bearing ball or some roundish object which is making the sound by rolling in the sump. Drain the engine oil to check otherwise the engine cam has to be exposed for checking. Also it must be causing a jamming effect thus when it tries to idle, it effectively causes the engine to stop. Anyway the engine has to be opened to rectify it..........sodeep

Rattling sound in steering (at low speeds)

I sounds like you need to grease the intermediate shaft. GM sells a kit that consists of a plug and a bag of grease for around $18. It has been a few years since I bought it so the price could have went up. They also offer an update shaft for around $100. I am nearly 100% sure this is your problem. I have a 03 Yukon and have done it 3 times in 120,000 miles.

There are a few other posibilities, but they are not so cheap. The next logical problem could be the power steering pump or the valve in the gear box.
