Question about 1996 Yamaha Royal Star XVZ 1300 A

2 Answers

I have a yamaha v-star 650 and am a small person. I got the bike back from the shop, and they had adjusted the clutch cable. Unfortunately, when wearing my riding gloves, my hands can't control the clutch release at the standard adjustment. I tried to loosen the clutch free play, and now the bike dies every time I try to put it in gear. Is this a normal "bad clutch adjustment" result? How do I fix it?? Thanks!

There are curved clutch leverds on the market but the problem is the clutch has to thravel a minimum distance to disengage. Look around, the curved levers may compensate. Good luck

Yamaha royal star motorcycle cluch whine and shudder in 4th and 5th gear at any speed

It is slipping. These big yamahas normally have slipping clutches. Mine slips, I've just learned to baby the clutch. Make sure you are in the most comfortable gear for the speed you are running at. Avoid rolling on full power at low speeds in higher gears. It's the nature of these great beasts. Clutch springs are too weak in these bikes, you may consider an aftermarket clutch spring assembly. The "shudder"(intermittent slipping) is caused by glazing. Make sure you are using the right lubricants for your bike, some synthetics can cause problems.

1)Adjust clutch cable correctly, check
2)Pull the clutch assembly apart, if there is little wear then you have "glazed" plates, clean each plate with 600 grit sandpaper and reassemble...get a new clutch spring assembly (weakened spring causes "shudder", slippage, and consequently glazing). Reassemble and adjust correctly (many forums out there with info).
3)Replace the full assembly and adjust correctly at setup. Adjust regularly....I check adjustment about every 300-500 miles.
4)Pay a shop to do these things for you.

99% sure its clutch slip... try ajusting the cable to the right gap, failing that its the cable itself or the clutch plates.

2003 yamaha 650 vstar clutch slipping?

This can happen if you used the wrong oil. Is the clutch cable or hydraulic operation. If cable then it may be dry or adjusted too much (needs a little free play at the lever. Not sure of your knowledge so starting with the basics. How many Kms has it done.

Clutch lever hard to pull

You probably have the adjustment screw turned in too far. Back the screw all the way off till there is no tension on it, then turn it in until just feel the slightest resistance. Then back it off 1/4 turn and lock it down.

V-star 650 yahama 2009 to much clutch play

There is a clutch linkage kit you can purchase which will take the "**** " out. It is mounts between the end of the clutch cable and the transmission. I have one on my bike and love it. Easy to adjust and customizes the clutch to you.
