I would try adjusting the valves. Honda engines are very picky about their valve clearence. The must be exact.

Intake: Exhaust: G200K1 3.7kW 0.08-0.16mm ( 0.0031-0.0063in ) 0.16-0.24mm ( 0.0063-0.0094 ) G200K1 4.0kW 0.08-0.16mm ( 0.0031-0.0063in ) 0.16-0.24mm ( 0.0063-0.0094 )

be very careful removing the valve cover, it'll want to bend and distort. use regular black or grey RTV sealant and don't use too much! :)

Testimonial: "With my twentyfive year old Honda G200 197 there is no valve adjustment. I have decoked reground them and the clearance on both valves is 0.10 The carb is clean but the sensative governor seems to be the problem which I don't know how to fix. Could the internals of the governor cause this hard to pull over problem? I have had it running but there is a lot of popping. Thanks for any suggestions."

Hmm, my apologies. Bit older than I thought it was :) The popping leads me to believe you may have a partially sheered flywheel key. Essentially the engine is running slightly out of time. If you remove the flywheel nut you should be able to see the slot in the flywheel vs the slot in the crankshaft, if they aren't perfectly lined up, then I would replace the key. If the mower is a BBC (engine can run without blade spinning) then this would not apply.

Thanks for that. A great help. I'll check it.

SOURCE: replacing starter rope on Briggs engine 133702, type 017002

On some models of mowers...depending on the maker of the mower, the rewind housing is bolted onto the engine cover with 3 screws. On the rest they are riveted and the only way to get to the crank rope is from underneath the housing...but, they do make refits for the mowers where you can replace the rivets with bolts

SOURCE: Honda HR215 starter rope

Try checking the spark plug if it sat for a long period of time it may be faulty, or the fuel might have built up condensation in it.

My Ryobi S430 is very hard to pull the starter rope.

Remove spark plug and try again. If still hard to pull then most likely it needs new a new recoil starter.

Stubborn start solution

All new users to pressure washers ...a good hint to remember when starting engine,be sure you are squeezing the water gun trigger allowing water to release from wand as you pull starter rope, this will stop the hard compression Non starting syndrome.

Pull cord jammed in the lawnmower

There could be several reasons for this problem, but sometimes it is in need of a simple cleaning. Remove the 3-4 nuts holding the starter assembly on the top of the engine. Normally you will use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove them. Turn the starter over in your hand so that you are looking at the starter pulley. Inspect the starter rope and make sure it isn't jammed between the starter pulley and the housing. If it is jammed, grab the starter rope and starter pulley and rotate them both together clockwise until the rope becomes unjammed. If the rope isn't jammed, turn the starter pulley counter clockwise gently. It will probably spring back and draw in the rope. If it retracts the rope slowly, spray WD40 around the bolt in the center of the pulley and work the pulley back and forth until the pulley frees up. If it doesn't free up or this isn't the problem, get back with me and I'll try and walk you through the rest of the repair.

Troy built mower honda 160 engine oil leak around governer shaft. no oil seal but shows one on parts breakdown. Can not find part number for shown seal.

Drain oil from mower until proper level. Remove spark plug and pull starter rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in cylinder pull rope several times to clean out. Replace fouled plug with new spark plug. Remove air cleaner, ensure no oil present, replace filter as needed. Clean air filter box with carb cleaner. Install new air filter reattach filter cover. Prime engine, pull starter rope 1/2 way 4 times to help prime, then pull starter rope fully up to 10 times to start.

Replaced starter rope on 5.5hp honda engine, can't seem to rewind it so it recoils when I pull start

Most of the rewind applications require you to pre load the recoil with a certain amount of turns before you wrap the rope on the pulley.
