I would think its the coil as the cdi in this model was a good unit

My bandit is not getting spark, all earths checked, ignition box, all possible switches checked, fuses also checked as well as electrics for headlights ect checked spark plugs are new, plug heads

Hi, Amber and the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm needs reset

Does oil need to be around pick up coil on 1200 suzuki 2002

Anything inside the engine casing will have some oil on it. This includes the ignition pick up coil. But it should not be drowning in it.

I have 1200 bandit with fuel getting into oil

Check the Compression in all 4 cylinders, if the compression is low on one cylinder, squirt some oil or or WD40 down the bore and immediately recheck the compression. If the pressure goes up a fair bit you have a broken ring, if not you could have a burnt valve. If your getting fuel in the oil it definately sounds like a ring problem

I am not getting spark on my 1997 suzuki bandit 1200s, there is a weak spark for a second then it stops and nothing, it will crank over fine, im almost positive its not my coil packs as i had a known good...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Just to verify and eliminate the ignition coils, tests for it are:
  • one terminal would have an IGN +12;
  • the other terminal would have a pulsating voltage when cranking;
  • passive test, primary (+ to -), resistance 3 ~ 5 ohms; while
  • any of the primary terminal to HT would be 15 ~ 18 kilo ohms.
The CDI could not be tested since it is a sealed unit. The only way to confirm if it is a CDI is to check the external factors and if they are present yet no spark, then it would be the CDI:
  • the CDI gets its triggers from the pulser coils;
  • the output of the pulser coils would be very very low ACV;
  • it would be preferable to use an analog/needle type multitester for the flickering pulser voltage;
  • the CDI also needs a "go signal" from the interlocks together with the starter relay;
  • try exercising the sidestand when cranking;
  • verify neutral light is on;
  • try starting with the clutch lever pulled.
Another possibility to consider is that the starter is consuming most of the power from the battery leaving very little for the ignition system to use and/or the ignition switch has some loose connection. The IGN +12 to the coil terminal should also test this possibility.

Please postback results / updates of tests performed.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
