Hi Anonymous, starter motor has one foot in the grave and or battery ground cable has a poor ground connection on the frame or engine. Good luck

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. Two voltage circuits at the starter motor, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other goes hot with key in the start position and is wired through clutch switch, I haven't looked up info on your clutch switch. The starter motor is grounded through engine block. Any testing at starter motor, make sure tranny is out of gear and parking brake is set.
You can check the starter itself, take it off, lay it on the ground, hook up jumper cables properly from battery to starter motor, at the least, it should kick out the drive gear and spin.

It won't start: new battery, have lights, it just clicks when you turn the ignition switch


you mean it wont crank, it must crank to start.
1: bad starter system
2: weak battery even a new battery can be weak.
if you dont charge it first.
or if it starts ok then wont later, that means cars charge system failure.

can you jump start engine? with jumper cables.
that be a big clue there, proving starter works but battery was weak.
if the battery is fully charged.
you can hot wire the starter solenoid, (tiny terminal)
if car cranks now, the key start wire is failing.
A/T or M/T tranny? both use different path here....??????

if you cant hot wire it, then that means the stater is bad
the cables bad or the battery is not really connected.
or possible the engine is seized, can you hand turn over the engine at the front crank bolt (CW , facing rear, in neutral)
if not motor is seized.
some times even the starter and rig gear can be seized.
the starter can be bench tested. too.

Battery cables get hot


The cables typically get hot from too much current. If the starter motor is frozen and can not turn you get high current. This could be in the starter, but also if the engine itself is frozen. Push on the cooling fan blades to see if the engine still moves. Remove the starter motor to check it.

Hot Starting Problem


hard starting problems when engine hot could be restricted air filter.restricted clogged fuel injectors.engine could either be diesel or gasoline.if engine dont start and starter wont turn over engine. could have bad battery ground cable or battery positive cable could have broken place when cable get hot crack increases cause less current engine wont have enough power to turn over.

Engine wont turn over


Check the amperage at the battery, ground cable to the block and battery positive cable to the starter. If its all good, the starter solenoid or motor is getting hot from engine heat, expanding the winding, causing the no crank condition. In which case, replace the starter.

If your voltage is dropping from 12 volts to 3 volts, your battery is bad. You have one or more cells shorting out in it. Take the battery out and have it load tested. Usually an auto parts store can do this for you. The reason the battery cable gets hot is that your starter is a DC motor. When you engage the motor at a lower voltage than it is designed to use, it draws more current in an effort to do it's job. With a 12 volt battery, when you try to start the bike, the starter may draw 50 amps. When your battery voltage drops to 3 volts, the starter will draw 200 amps. You battery cable is not large enough to handle this current load and it gets hot. Since there are no breakers in this circuit between the battery and the starter, the cable get hot enough to melt the insulation on them and deform the battery post. Under no circumstance should your battery voltage drop below 11 volts when you press the starter button.

The truck will kinda turn over than the batter cables get hot & start smoking. Wont start, battery is fully charged also.


the starter motor could be faulty & needs to be replaced, if the battery leads are getting hot the starter motor is drawing too much current.....hope this helps....cheers.

Hi my jeep 2.5l clicks but wont start... i think i might be the starter but not sure.... my lights turn on and the wipers work . HELP!


it might be the battery as well. Some batterys will get weak and have enough juice to run lights and small items but not enough to turn the engine over. I would have the battery tested. Have you tried to have it jumped.

Will not turn over with new batterie


check battery voatage with a volt meter. After verifying 12v or better at starter, check power at starter cable terminal and verify ground at block is good. Then put volt meter across both battery terminals and try to start car. If battery voltage shows 9.5 or less while attempting to crank, change starter.
(make sure that there is 12v at the starter trigger wire with key in "start" before replacng)
(By battery "hot" you mean it's charged, not getting hot, correct?)
