Blocked idle jet, worn HT lead, knackered spark plug, coil needs replacing

Posted on Apr 02, 2014

Testimonial: "Removed tank and tested coils, both ok. New plugs fitted 2/3 months ago. HT leads look new. (Bought the bike 1 year ago, covered 13,000 miles since then). I did notice a slight kink in the vacuum pipe. When I had this happen before it stopped completely. Replaced tank, bike now running fine, but don't know what I've done. Thanks for the advice, I will look at the jets if it starts again. + may try some different fuel. Regards Russ."

Probably the vacuum pipe to the fuel tap was kinked and blocked. can also get a small crack causing a leak and loss of fuel. you can test by turning the fuel tap to the prime position which opens it without needing the engine to pull a vacuum.

1989 honda prelude si. Automatic, shakes real bad when stopped.has no power, pedal to floor barely goes over 30 mph. Smells of fuel,i removed the cat now car, starts at least, but still wants to die and rough...

If the shaking has been progressively getting worse i would start by checking the engine and transmission mounts for rips or tears. Smelling fuel and major loss of power would suggest that you have a fuel leak somewhere. The sending unit its self is a culprit that can be hard to locate so if in doubt check it as well.

I have a 2000 chevy metro that has a rough idle and check engine flashes

The flashing light is indicating a misfire which is what you are describing. When is the last time you had a tune up? Most likely just replacing the spark plugs/wires will fix it.

Loud bang, then drop in power, now car running rough!

Get a compression tester and find out if you blew a cylinder. You'll need to test all cylinders. Your most likely running on 7 cylinders instead of 8 or 5 instead of 6 if you have the V-6.

Intermittent loss of engine power in 1998 olds bravada

Unhook your battery (neg terminal), let it sit for ten minutes, then start the car and let it run for two minutes without touching anything. This resets the computer, I had a Buick that required this about three times a year, fixed it every time. If this isn't your problem, is is getting progressively worse? Look at the coil, it may need to be replaced. Of course, make sure your air cleaner is clean. Do you have any codes in your computer? Go to one of the discount auto parts stores they will read it for free. Of all the sensors, it may be the mass airflow sensor, look atr this link, it is located in air delivery system connected to your air cleaner housing. If you pull it out DON'T BREAK THE WIRES IN IT, but you can sometimes clean them with denatured alcohol and a Q-tip.
