If you mean a spring that would cause the cover to fly off, no, there is not.

SOURCE: location of ignition module on a 2001 harley xl1200c

Hi!
I hope you are looking for the contact breaker module? if so there should be a round cover with possibly six screws sitting at the base of your Cylinders with Harley Davidson written on it or if aftermarket maybe smooth/Chrome or Ride to Live etc., that's where mine is on a FLHR
Hope this got you there!

Clutch tenion spring rubbing derby cover making rubbing sound.

If you've got anything rubbing the derby cover, you've got a real problem somewhere. Go to this site and look up your bike under OEM parts. http://www.bikebandit.com Stand the bike up fairly straight and take the derby cover off. Try to determine what is making the noise and get back with me. If your bike is a Road King or any other Big Twin, the clutch spring is a "diaphragm" type spring meaning it's a flat round disc spring. It's not a coil spring and nothing should be even near the derby cover. The only thing that I can possibly think of rubbing is the clutch adjuster screw lock nut may have come loose and worked it way out far enough to rub but I've never seen that happen because the clutch rotates the wrong way.

2011 HD 883 Superlow. Can't get it into neutral.

Turn the engine off and try to get it into neutral. If you can, then it means your clutch needs adjusting. It's dragging. To adjust the clutch, find the cable adjust sleeve in the middle of the cable. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster sleeve inwards to get as much slack in the cable as possible.

Then, remove the derby cover from the primary cover. There is a spring and a lock nut under the derby cover. Take these out and you'll see an adjuster screw in the hole. Turn the screw counterclockwise until it stops. Then, turn the clutch 1/4 turn clockwise. Reinstall the lock nut, spring, and the derby cover.

Go back to the cable adjuster and adjust the sleeve back out until you have 1/8 inch free travel at the lever.

Good Luck

I adjusted the clutch on my 1200 xlc 2008 sportster but it is still slipping. what should i check next?

if you adjusted your clutch correctly and it's still slipping, it's time for clutch plates.

To adjust the clutch, find the cable adjuster in the center of the clutch cable. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjuster inwards and all the slack you can in the cable.

Pull the derby cover off and remove the spring and the locking nut. Turn the screw in the center all the way out counterclockwise. Then go back in 1/4 turn. Reinstall the locking nut and spring and the derby cover.

Go back to the cable adjuster and turn it outwards until you have about 1/8" freeplay. work the clutch a couple of times and recheck the freeplay.

If the clutch still slips, time for new friction plates.

Good Luck

How to adjust clutch

To adjust your clutch, follow the clutch cable down until you find a cable adjuster usually protected by a rubber bellows type cover. Move the cover up or down and loosen the lock nut. Adjust the cable adjuster inwards to make the cable as loose as possible.

Now, remove the derby cover. In the center of the clutch assembly you'll see an adjuster. Loosen the locknut and turn the center bolt inwards until you feel resistance. Do not force the bolt as you'll be disengaging the clutch. Turn it inwards until you feel the resistance, no more. Then, back the bolt back out 1/2 turn and lock the locknut. Replace the derby cover.

Then go back to the cable adjuster and adjust the adjuster outwards until you have about an 1/8" play at the lever. Lock the lock nut down and replace the cover.

BTW: If you have too much oil in your primary, it will make the clutch drag and you will be unable to find neutral with the engine running. Make sure the oil level is no higher than the lower point of the clutch spring with the bike standing straight up.

Good Luck
Steve

How to check trans lube, and how often to change it,on a 2004 sporty xl1200c?

Take off the Derby cover, the fluid should come to just below the bottom lip. I change mine every other oil change. Be very careful with the O-ring seal on the derby cove it can be a pain to seat properly and will pinch and leak if your not careful. I use a little vaseline to seat the O-ring
