Question about Honda XR 200 Motorcycles

1 Answer

Honda xr 200, revving up and down during high rpm and higher speeds.

Hi, I have a 1994 XR200, I got the bike from my older brother (hadn't been run in a few years), after changing fluids cleaning the carb the bike ran terrible. So I worked on the carb, the idle is now great the mid range is great but in high speed or high RPM the bike revs up and down. I took the carb apart cleaned it and made sure I did not miss anything. I took it for a test run but the bike is still revving up and down at high end. I have been cleaning everything and working on the bike for about a month. The only thing I cannot fix is the Revving up and down at the high end. What could it be?

SOURCE: Backfiring

Hi, maybe its the same problem i had, i have a 1200 goldwing where your spark plug are there are holes if these become clogged the water stays there and causes backfiring, get a metal welding rod or steel coat hanger and push through the hole to clear the water, hope this helps good luck.

SOURCE: No Power at High RPM

Sounds like a fuel problem, possible stuck needle valve. Did you check for vacuum leaks? How about the fuel itself, did you treat it before storage to prevent gelling and varnish ? If not your entire fuel system may be restricted. Purchase a can of Seafoam...pour in 1/2 of it to a tank of gas, use the other 1/2 on the next tank. Change fuel filter afterwards because any foreign materials will be in the filter from the cleaning process. Third tank normal fill.
Good luck...i hope this helps.

SOURCE: 83 suziki GS450 idle issues

the problem with the rubber was close but on the gs450 there is a metal insert that even if the rubber was rotted away the metal seals aginst the head so it cant leak. the problem is on the gs 450 suzuki used a cheap throttle cable that kinks behind the gas tank and kinks at the bend to the crabs under the set and the throttle system is a pull only not a dual cable pull push to always close the throttle. if you start the bike a wiggle the bend in the cable that comes out from the twist grip you will see it changes the idle. with either your finger or a screw driver and push the plate down on the carbs that the cable connects too. if the idle drops this conforms your problem. order a new cable from dennis kirk they have the revised one that has metal adjustment screw and metal clip in. better jacket casing as well.

I ran out of gas on my Kawasaki ZX9 and it runs not very well now! How do I clean the carbs out?

re-categorized, and tidied up your English. :-)

There are videos. Tank off, air filter box off, disconnect linkages and fuel pipes, remove carbs, clean the bottom float chambers and then the jets. Reassemble and balance the carbs. Not done this for a few years but fairly straight forward.

Honda XR200 Revs up and down while in high rpm and high speeds

Hi, Worldrand if your bike has been sitting idle for months or years and you did not do any pre-storage maintenance I feel your pain it will probably have a dead battery and not want to start or if it starts it will idle and run poorly then stall, here are the following steps necessary to complete in order to get your bike back to an acceptable running condition and in the future pour in a bottle of fuel stabilizer and injector cleaner for you FI folks at least 2 times a year and before storage.
1. If your battery was 2-3 years old when you last had the bike running you should replace it.
2. If you believe your battery might still be serviceable remove it from the bike and put it on a 1 or 2 amp trickle charger for 24 hours. If it is the old lead acid type with visible cells and acid levels fill each cell to the top line with distilled water and replace the caps, run the vent tube into a plastic or styrofoam cup, any cells that are cloudy/milky replace the battery.
3. After charging remove the leads and let the battery sit for a couple of hours then check the battery voltage with a volt meter, you should have 12.5 volts or more, any readings in the 11 volt range you need to do a proper "LOAD" test on the battery and replace as necessary, you may have 12.5 volts or better but little or zero amps, any readings in the 10 volt range you have a dead cell and the battery needs to be replaced.
4. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
5. Remove and inspect your air cleaner paper elements that are not oil soaked can be cleaned with a soft brush and low pressure compressed air, oil soaked elements must be replaced. Gause mesh and foam elements can be cleaned by soaking them in a container big enough to completely cover them with a solution of 1 gallon of water and 1 oz. of Dawn dishwashing liquid for small and medium size elements, for monster size double the formula and let soak for at least one hour then rinse with warm water shake off excess and let air dry, "WARNING" do not use compressed air as this will embed micro-sized dirt and road grime and destroy the mesh pattern and stretch foam elements out of shape just squeeze it like a sponge and let air dry, use a fan if you're in a hurry. When completely dry spray a very fine mist of air filter oil evenly around the whole element.
6. Remove the carburetors, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
7. Check intake manifold and seals for leaks and cracks.
8. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove, clean, and inspect fuel and vacuum lines and replace as necessary.
9. Replace spark plugs with new ones and check for spark.

Honda XR200 revs up and down while in high RPM or higher speeds

You are on the right track with the fuel system. Maybe the fuel filter, There is one in the tank also, I think. Try running on reserve if you have it.

1983 kawaski kz1100 spectre high idle to keep running

When a bike is run you get a small build up of rubbish in the carbs, this can block the idle jets. So a carb clean should solve your problem. Nice to see older bike still being used. Beware of mad "cagers" and keep it rubber side down.

Have you cleaned the tank, fuel can cause steel to rust, drain carbs and blow the jets out. Then make sure you change (or fit) the in line fuel filter, they are cheap and easy to replace and save problems like this.

you say you cleaned the carbs, but did you pull and clean the jets ? they are very very tiny holes, and take like nothing to plug them. pull the jets and run a wire from a wire brush thru them, should start for you now

Bike sputters with no throtle when trying to start. If any throtle or choke is used bike will not sputter at all. If starting fluid is used bike will start. I've changed plugs ,new gas and cleaned air...

Check/replace inline fuel filter. Put a fuel injector/carb cleaner fluid in the tank and run it through, this will clean any build up that may be in carbs/injectors.
If problem is still persisting then you'll need to get carbs/injectors removed for cleaning and resetting. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

Yamaha TW 200 starts but won't run.

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..
