If it has a cable there is an adjustment at the lower end where it attaches to the engine.

SOURCE: Adjust Motorcycle Clutch Cable

Usually there are 2 adjustment points. One at the clutch lever, and one on the clutch pull on the crankcase. Follow the cable from the handlebars to the engine, there should be an adjust bolt or two. The adjustment at the handlebar lever is usually a screw with a thumbwheel lock nut. Depending on what you are trying to adjust, dictates which one you will use and in what direction it will go. If the clutch is slipping, use the thumbwheel adjuster. Loosen it, back the screw out 2-3 turns, tighten. and check you clutch. if this one is all the way out, go to the crankcase, loosen the bolt on the richt side of the bracket first, then loosen the left one, one turn at a time, checing the clutch. once it's where you want it. tighten the right bolt only. You can do this with a set of open end or box wrenches. An adjustable wrench works in a pinch.

SOURCE: adjust the clutch on a honda vt1100

It has two adjustments one on the handlebar and one by the clutch basket. Unscrew them until you get the play where you want it. Start by adjusting the one by the clutch basket

SOURCE: I have a 2004 Honda

Adjustment is made at clutch end first and then fine-tuned at the handle bar end. Adjust at clutch end until there is no free play on the lever. Then slack off the nut a quarter turn. Test clutch operation and adjust at the lever end if nescessary. Remember to lock the nuts at the clutch end.

You cant adjust the clutch, but you can adjust the clutch cable,to the point where you have 4-6mmfree play at the lever,no less otherwise you will cause the clutch to slip.

83 1000 sporster clutch adjustment xlh

Loosen clutch cable adjuster locknut and the front of the outer primary cover and turn the cable adjuster inwards until a large amount of free play at the hand lever on the handlebar is recognized.

Remove the clutch adjuster access plug, Loosen the adjuster locknut and turn the screw inwards until it becomes harder to turn (starts to release the clutch) and continue turning 2 more turns to be sure clutch is disengaged.

Adjust all the free play out of the clutch cable by turning the cable adjuster in the front of the outer primary outwards. Do not put any tension on the cable, just adjust all the freeplay out of the cable and tighten locknut on the primary cover.

Now, Back off the adjuster screw at the release mechanism until the clutch is engaged and the screw turns freely. Then turn inwards until it just bumps and then back off 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Locknut the locknut down and install the access plug. There should be about a 1/16" free play at the hand lever.

good Luck

Adjusting clutch

You need 4mm free play in the cable at the clutch lever.

You can turn the top adjuster all the way
in and then adjust the lower adjuster (on engine) out
until your lever has the 4mm
free play. Remember to lock the adjusters
again so they stay put.

you can adjust it but your clutch is getting worn, you can adjust on both ends but if you have no free play think of replaceing the clutch.
