Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

Harley Davidson FLSTNI speedo. Battery left on tender all winter. First ride noticed it was running really high.

Turned off motor and it bottomed at 18. Turned back on and rode home. Bottomed at 15. Turned off and on and it dropped about 5mph every time. Now it reads 0. Will this happen again when I ride or will it be fine?

It might be a bad speed sensor.

2004 Harley Davidson FXDL - FXDLI Dyna Low Rider creates a static shock when a Harley Davidson Battery Tender is connected

Hi, Jeff this very unusual I have never in my 45 years of working on Harleys run across this issue. You may have a loose or corroded ground from the battery to the frame or the frame to the engine or the battery tender is faulty. I would take the tender apart to check the integrity of its grounds and you may want to hook up a test jumper wire from the negative battery pole to various points on the frame and engine to eliminate the bike or the tender as the culprit. Hi, Paul if your battery is more than 4 years old it may have enough voltage but not enough amperage to start the bike I would recommend having it load tested, for more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the blue links below and for more specific information or questions at no charge please feel free to contact me at Good luck and have a wonderful day.

What the best battery for are 1340 softail

Hi Alfred, excellent question, always keep battery clean and terminals tight, we do not want help surface discharge. If you are not going to ride for a few weeks keep it on a battery tender. For winter storage disconnect battery negative cable, and reconnect and put back on battery tender about 1 week before you expect to ride again. Good luck

When rideing. If I twist go.a little faster small engine light comes on. Inside speedo. When I ease off. 10 seconds later it goes off. Bike runs fine.

You might be low on oil and losing pressure at higher revs causing the oil light to go on.
Find out what light it is so you have a better idea what's going on!

Where is the connector for the battery tender on a Harley Davidson 2008 FLHX (Streetglide)?

You have to put the connector on the battery. When you purchase the Battery tender, it comes with a "pig tail". You put the pig tail on the battery and run it to an inconspicous place. When you finish your ride, plug the battery tender in. Now, if you bought a bike with the tender already on it. Look closely around the edge of the seat for the connector. If you can't find it, you'll have to access the battery and follow the wires to the connector end.

Good Luck

Remove the seat. The battery is in the "horseshoe" oil tank. You can get to both battery post by simply removing the seat.

Disconnect the negative post first. Then connect the pigtail for the Battery tender to the postive post. Connect the negative side of the pigtail to the negative post last. This way you won't get any unwanted "sparks".

Can you charge a battery on a 2005 FLSTNI without removing the seat and getting to the battery? Is there an external charge Point.

no. you have to charge the battery directly from the points on top.
does the bike run? if so, just have a few friends give you a push and push start it, then let it sit and run to charge the battery.

it might be possible to locate the positive and negative lines the come off the battery and finding where they expose any open wire and try charging from there, but i wouldn't suggest it. you could possibly do damage to another part of the electrical system.
