Cooling fan dont work

If you let the bike sit and idle for about ten minutes and the cooling fan doesn't come on, it usually means your radiator fluid is low. The sensor to turn on the fan sits at the top of the radiator. So if it doesn't come on after the bike gets up to heat (this can take a LONG time in cold weather), you need to flush your radiator. Intruder Alert Suzuki Intruder and Boulevard Owners Club

Hi, Slava and the usual suspects are:
1. Fan fuse has blown.
2. Faulty thermostat.
3. Faulty temperature sensor.
4. Faulty wiring.
5. Faulty fan.
6. Faulty fan relay.
7. Faulty fan switch.

2004 jeep grand Cherokee's radiator fan won't run on high

Hi Al, I'm glad to help!

Three possible causes: (1) The high speed circuit in the radiator fan motor could be defective. (2) The high speed fan relay Could be defective. (3) It possibly may have a wiring issue. I've seen at times where you can wiggle the fan motor connector that's mounted on the fan shroud and the motor will kick on. If this is the case then replace the hole assembly which is a motor and shroud assembly. Hope this helps and have an awesome day.

My 2005 Yamaha R6 is overheating at idle...like sitting at red lights.. I wonder if its a temp switch or a blown fuse, or even a wiring problem. Any help?

if your cooling fan is not switching on then i would check fuses then if all fuses are good check for 12V at you cooling fan when temp gets between half and 3/4 way to hot . if you have no voltage it could be a temp sensor or relay . if you have voltage there your fan motor has gone bad and needs to be replaced . another thing to check is the hoses running to the radiator . let the bike idle and warm up and check the temp of the radiator hoses . if one is much cooler than it should be then you might have a bad thermostat on your bike and its not opening enough to let coolant flow at idle. water pump could be going bad as well. if the bike warms up and fan does not kick on untill you rev it up a bit i would check the thermostat and waterpump

The tempreture in my cbr 400rr get high every time i start ride my bike it come over the meddel i ride my bike in a small city it start come high after 5 minutes i start riding bike i put in the redeter...

Is your fan kicking on when your bike starts to get hot?

On my cbr the fan would kick on at 215 degrees. Even sitting in traffic on a 90 degree day my bike would only get up to 220 at most.

If your fan is kicking on when its suppose to and you have your radiator filled up full then I would check your thermostat.

The thermostat is an object that opens up when your engine reaches a temperature of around 180 degrees and lets antifreeze run through your engine to keep it cool. If the thermostat isn't opening up then the antifreeze isn't circulating through your engine, its just sitting inside your radiator. And that's not what you want.

You can remove the thermostat from your bike and put it in a pan of water and heat the water up with a candy thermometer in the water and you should see your thermostat open up at around 180 degree's. Just do this on the stove. The water won't be boiling so you will be able to see it open up.

Hopefully its just your thermostat because they are very cheap(around 10 bucks).

If your thermostat is good and your fans kick on when they are suppose to then I would say its a water temp sensor or a sensor period.

I'll bet though that if you take your bike for a ride and when it gets around 215 degrees that your fan isn't kicking on to help the motor cool back down.

Hopefully this is the case and if it is you can just run the fan wires to your battery and hook up a toggle switch to turn your fans on whenever you please. This is just a bandaid fix and not fixing the real problem but it will get you by until you can fix it the right way.

Well I hope I may have been of some assistance and good luck,
Remember to check your fluid while the bike is running and warmed up completely, because if you just fill your radiator with the bike turned off it will only fill your radiator with fluid and not your motor as well(because the thermostat will be closed) which is what you want. Also after you fill your radiator when the bike is running and you can fill it any more let the bike run for a little while with the cap off to let any air in the cooling system purge out of the open radiator. You should see some air bubbles coming out of the radiator cap hole. If you have air in the system that will cause your bike to overheat as well. Had this happen on a Honda Car.

GOOD LUCK,

2002 Nissan Frontier Overheating while Stopped Problem,

Hi,

Sounds like the radiator fan is not working. Or if it is and it uses some sort of clutch, then the fan air is not sufficient to cool the radiator. To verify, pls jump/hardwire the radiator fan temporarily to be always on with the engine running. this would mean providing a direct connection to the IGN B+12 and the other to the ground. Try, if it still overheats, then problem is elsewhere; if overheating stops, then it cold be;
  • radiator fan relay;
  • fan clutch;
  • connection from A/C to fan relay. In some instances, the radiator fan will only work if the A/C is on.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
