Pull the plug and clean it, pull the air filter and clean or replace it, with the plug out of the cylinder cycle the motor a few times - as if you're trying to start it - but cover anything you don't want gunk to get on. If there's residual oil in the cylinder this can help flush it out.
Of course like the last answers mentioned, your spark plug's gap should be correct, and it would be wise to make sure you have the correct amount of oil in it.
If the air filter is paper, replace it. If it's a foam filter, use some foam filter cleaner, not something as abrasive and destructive as brake/carb cleaner. A mild dish washing soap and hot water in your kitchen sink will do the job but not too hot that the rim of the air filter falls off because the temp disrupted the adhesive.
Spark plugs are fine with being cleaned with the brake/carb cleaner but I'd go with the brake cleaner. I find it evaporates better with less residue.

Mecury sable misfire on two cylinders, Does this mean I can do a tune up on my car and it should act fine.

if the misfire is on 2 adjacent cylinders , a tune up will be a waste of money unless you have a compression test done first
adjacent cylinders is generally a head gasket
modern EFI engines do not need a tune up as the computer in the ECM does a tune up every 30 seconds
what you should be doing is having the fault codes read to see there are any reports from the sensors that need attention
most misfires are from bad injectors so a quality injector cleaner is about all the tune up you need to do

Hooked up computer to dodge ram 1500 4.7 liter magnum code came up p300 p301 what does this mean

P0300 is the random misfire code. P0301 is the misfire code for Cylinder #1. When was your last tune up? non platinum spark plugs should be replaced around 30-60k along with the wires. With platinum plugs that extends out to 100k. I would try a tune up first plugs and wires. Reasonably cheap fix that is a prevenitive maintenace item anyways. If you have just recently had a tune up or it does not solve your problem you most likely have a bad coil pack on cylinder#1.

Hope This Helps.

We have a check engine light for misfired cylinders. We are planning on doing a tune up. Will this fix the problem?

usually a complete tune up will cure the problem. BUT, you can also get misfires for coil problems. also 1 bad injector will cause misfires. a tune up is always a good place to start. you may need to have the codes cleared after the tuneup.

# 6 cylinder misfire. 88300 miles. should I do tune up?

A misfire can be caused by many thing, most common is a defective ignition coil or defective fuel injector, the plugs last well over 100,000 miles so unless you disturbed them they should be ok. Your first tune is at 100,000 miles as stated in the owners manual under maintenance. Engine problems can also cause a misfire, these include a vacuum leak at the intake manifold or a burned valve.

Got misfire in cylinders 1 & 2 after tune-up

Could be bad coils, or someone switched the two wires if it has wires.

Service engine light still on after tune up

I would have this vehicle scope tested to see which, if any cylinder is misfiring. A tune up WILL NOT necessarily eliminate any ignition malfunction, but a QUALIFIED tech will note a problem. Many factors can be involved in a MISFIRE, including, coils, compression, timing, and more. Hope this helps

96 bmw 740il misfire

This is a pretty common problem. I would change your valve cover gaskets. They run around ~ 50 bucks. If they are bad it will leak oil into spark plug well and cause a misfire. Very known on the 740.. Also if tune was not anytime not too long ago id change spark plugs while you at it. Then clear the computer and if you still get misfire on 8 try changing the ignition coil which is right about the cylinder with cylinder ignition coil 5. clear the computer. if you get random misfire and misfire cyclinder 5 after then its your ignition coil. parts store runs around 100 bucks
