O-rings went bad in fuel line quick disconnects

2000 Road King, O-rings went bad in fuel line quick disconnects. When we removed the "reserve" fitting, the end of the gas line wasn't connected to anything? (only the retainer bracked inside the center of the tank. Does it just sit in the bottom of the tank?

My guess. One hose is feed to fuel rail one hose is return from rail and one would be a vent of some kind.

SOURCE: how do i remove the fuel supply lines coming off

You may find these are factory hose fittings, they are put on with a special tool, and usualy can only be used once. Im not to sure how they come apart, but will have to be cut off somehow, and then replaced with standard hose clamps of the worm drive type.

O rings for fuel lines

Actually, the disconnect has TWO o-rings = one to seal it to the tank:

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/uplandhunter/DSCN0057.jpg

Needed only if there's a leak between the disconnect and the tank.

And one INSIDE the disconnect:

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/uplandhunter/DSCN0058.jpg

Kinda hard to see in this photo, but look close down inside.
Also, when reconnecting fuel line, put a dab/drop of oil on the male fitting (too hard to do the female fitting, oil doesn't like to run UP-hill).

This will make the fitting go together easier and lube the o-ring to help prevent cutting it.
Also, it helps to oil the o-ring to help install it into the disconnect and the oil left on it will help as mentioned above.

How to remove harley road king gas tank fuel 2005 model

I have a 2008 Road King Classic (and have had the tank off), so maybe they're similar.
Disconnect the negative lead of the battery.

My dash has a screw under the nose of the seat (which must be removed) and one in the front.
lift dash and unplug harness.

If you have a gas gauge in the left hand gas cap, underneath tank unplug it's connector.

The fuel line has a quick disconnect. Pull fitting, and line unplugs.
There is a check valve inside to keep gas from leaking, but it's a good idea to have a catch cup, just in case some residual fuel flows out.

From there, I have a bolt on each side of the front of the tank, one in the center rear, then lift it off.

Change fuel filter

Remove the screw from the metal bracket that is holding the fuel filter. It is located right below the battery to the right. To get the quick connect fuel line fittings off. YOU WILL NEED A DISCONNECT TOOL. O'Reillys or Auto Zone should have the tool pack of (6) The small gray one fits the 2001 Sportage. Put the plastic tool under the fuel line fitting and squeeze together. The fuel line will pop off the old filter. To remove the rear fuel line, go under the vehicle and use the tool on the fuel line. There is a rubber hose with 2 quick connect fittings. One end attaches to the filter and the other end attaches to a metal fuel line under vehicle. Remove the fitting that attaches to the metal line since there is no room on the back of filter for the tool to fit. Once you get the whole assembly out of the car.... you can work on getting the fitting off the rear of the old filter. Be very careful not to damage the plastic quick connect fittings! KEEP YOUR FACE CLEAR OF THE FILTER A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS WILL COME OUT!!!!!

My fuel disconnect on my 2000 police road king leaks when i reconnect is there orings that could cause the problem

Yes, there are, unfortunately the easiest way to replace them is to remove the old one and match it up to a replacement.
A quick note here is that often it is not the O-ring, sadly it is the connector hose and or the coupling on the fuel tank. So if replacing theO-ring does not help, then you may need to replace those items.

How to replace fuel pump on chevy malibu 2000

First you should check your trunk. some newer chevy's have an access pannel uner the trunk liner inside the trunk. you remove the liner, remove the bolts and panel, and the pump is right there. it may take some effort to get it wiggled through, but trust me, it will fit. you must remove the fuel lines and wire harness first, then remove the lock ring completely before attempting to pull the pump through the access hole. if that fails then you need to drop you fuel tank to access the pump. there are instructions for removal and installation of the tank below.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the fuel tank, using a hand-operated pump device to drain as much fuel through the filler tube as possible.

0900c1528026905f.jpg Fig. The fuel filler pipe is attach to the tank by a hose clamp
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Unfasten the muffler hanger bolts.
  3. Remove the rubber exhaust hangers, then allow the exhaust system to rest on the rear axle.
  4. Disconnect the hoses from the fuel tank sender. Grasp the filter and one nylon fuel connection line fitting. Twist the quick-connect fitting 1 / 4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within the fitting. Repeat for the other fitting. Using compressed air, blow out the dirt from the quick-connect fittings at the end of the fuel filter.
  5. Detach the quick-connect fittings by pulling the release tabs back on the fuel line quick connector and pulling apart.
  6. Disconnect the hoses at the tank from the filler, vent and vapor pipes.
  7. With the help of an assistant, support the fuel tank, then disconnect the two tank retaining straps and carefully lower the tank.
  8. Detach the fuel sender electrical connector.
  9. Unplug the fuel pressure sensor connector.
  10. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. If the tank is being replaced, perform the following:
    1. Remove the sound insulators.
    2. Remove the modular fuel pump/sender assembly, as outlined earlier in this section.
    3. Inspect all connectors for dirt and burrs. Clean or replace, as required. Inspect the fuel line O-rings for cuts, nicks, swelling and/or distortion and replace as necessary.
    4. Install the fuel sender assembly to the new tank, as outlined earlier in this section.
    5. Install the sound insulators.

  2. With the help of an assistant, raise the fuel tank to the vehicle and attach the fuel sender connector and, if equipped, the fuel pressure sensor connector.
  3. Raise the fuel tank into position then fasten the retaining straps. Tighten the retaining bolts to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  4. Connect the hoses to the filler, vent and vapor pipes.
  5. Attach the nylon fuel feed and return connecting line quick-connect fittings to the fuel sender, as follows:
    1. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male connector tube ends.
    2. Push the connectors together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.
    3. Once installed, pull on both ends of each connection to be sure they are secure.

  6. Install the rubber exhaust hangers.
  7. Install the muffler hanger bolts, then tighten to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  8. Attach the fuel tank sender electrical connector.
  9. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  10. Refill the fuel tank, then connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Turn the ignition to the ON position for two seconds, then turn it to the OFF position for ten seconds. Turn again to the ON position and check for fuel leaks.

Fuel filter location 2000 grand am 2.4

  • Relieve the fuel system pressure
  • Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands.
  • The fuel filter is mounted on the floor pan just in front of the fuel tank
  • Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner to clean any dirt surrounding the fuel inlet and outlet line fittings.
  • Once all the dirt has been removed, twist the two lines a quarter-turn in opposite directions to loosen the fitting. Depress the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs and detach the inlet line from the fuel filter
  • Note: Have spare rags or a small container to catch or wipe up extra gasoline that will spill from the filter assembly.
  • Use an open end wrench to steady the outlet side of the filter and a flare nut wrench to unscrew the fuel line nut, then separate the outlet line from the filter while noting the installed position of the O-ring. Using a flare nut wrench will help to avoid rounding the corners off of the fuel line nut.
  • Detach the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt and remove the fuel filter.
  • Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Be sure to install a new O-ring on the outlet line before reassembling."The fuel filter (arrow) is located underneath the vehicle in front of the gas tank".
  • "Squeeze the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs together and pull the inlet line away from the filter, then detach the outlet line from the fuel filter - unbolt the filter mounting bracket to remove the fuel filter".
Hopefully this helps a bit, good luck and be safe.
