There must be a earth connection it should be connected to the motor and frame ,have a look around your battery area there should be one there if it was running ,if it is a project bike then you will have to put in earth wires cheers

SOURCE: Need the torque spec on the acorn nuts that fasten

I have a slightly older springer, but they are probably the same. The shop manual says in reference to the acorn nuts on top of the spring restraints, "Tighten acorn nuts to 30-35 ft-lbs torque."

Check your spark plugs, they are quite fragile & yoy may have a crack in the ceramics. Replacement is recommended.

Don't ding me on this response, (it's happened to me) is the run switch turned off, it's the first switch on the right handlebar.
I'm assuming it was running prior to doing your maintenance.

Look at the bottom of your oil tank from the right hand side of the bike. You should see a large pipe or hose running downwards towards the rear of the transmission along the frame. At the end of this pipe is a plug. Take the plug out to drain the oil.

Make sure the battery is fully charged. Contrary to what some people will tell you, Harley batteries are not fully charged when shipped to dealerships. I work at a dealership and it normally takes a full 8 hour shift to charge a new battery that fits your bike. The clicking sound in normally caused by a low battery. Good luck!

You need to check the serial number with a dealer. He can look it up and tell you if the bike came with the 110 cu in engine. The frame number and the engine number should match. Of course, the engine number is an "abbreviated" number but it should match the frame number.

Where is the oil drain plug located on a 1997 harley springer softail ?

On the right side of the bike under the oil tank you should see a large black hose behind the the exhaust pipes that travels down to the frame where you'll see a plug within a clip on the frame. That plug will drain you oil tank.

You added an extra ground but did nothing with the positive cable. It's time to replace that one, possibly using better quality cable then stock.
