To remove the forks you need to untighten the screws holding the forks in the yoke, then hit the tops of the forks slightly with a wooden hammer to get them out of the yoke.

I had bent my shift arm then when i tried to replace i had to move the clamp piece that goes on the transmission so the rubber piece the connects to the rod the goes down there wouldnt rub against the bike...

I fear that whatever bent the arm forced the shifter with a lot of pressure and now, in addition to the bent arm, the bike has a bent shift fork. It is the bent fork that causes the shifting problem. The shift fork is a part of the transmission and is costly to fix. Below is a diagram showing how the shift drum rotates to move the forks left and right to change gears. Check with a Kawasaki shop to confirm my diagnosis. Please rate my answer.tombones49_154.gif

I am thinking of buying a 2005 honda shadow sabre and the seller says that one of the chrome front fork covers is dented in causing the front forks not to move. He claims that the fork is not bent and all...

hey El, PASS on this bike!!! The fork tube(s) may be bent..If the " chrome front cover" is the fork leg..its $$$ to fix it...
personally, I would pass on this bike until the owner repairs it!!
The owners explanation smells like BS!!!

It takes quite a lick on the fork leg or a bent tube to make the forks not work!!!!

Front tire is pointing to the right

You need to assess to what level is the fork bent,if the metal on the chrome of fork is twisted then you need a new one else you will have to remove the forks completely, remove the tyre and get one of the fork tube out and go to machine shop they can use a hydrolic press to straighten it.And there you go!!Forks is back on..Please note you have to align the forks by twisting the steering..

Twisted forks

and when the forks/bars/tripleclamps are straight the wheel goes towards the right. ii think they are twisted or bent. how much do new forks cost?Loosen your front wheel slightly. Loosen your fork clamp bolts on the triple clamps slighty. Hold the front brake lever. Put one leg on either side of the front wheel to keep it from moving. Use the handlebars to turn the front end back straight. Tighten everything back up using a torque wrench and torqueing to the proper values from your service manual. Go ride and have fun. ,
