Question about 2001 Yamaha YZ 426 F

1 Answer

Cant start the bike

The bike hadnt been started for a long time when I brought it... finally managed to get it going, but then I changed the plug- oil and filter, now ive been kicking for days but the bloody thing just about starts every now and then- but it wont warm up - back fires and ends up stalling! help please?

The bottom end has a big weld so it looks like it has had a major problem before- but looks like it has been fixed well and has a FME ingraved into the the piston bit, above the welded bottom end (sorry and the un mechanical terms im a carpenter!) so is that an aftermarket performance piece? and could this be making it harder to start thamn normal?

So you replaced the plug with the same exact plug you took out only new?
and you changed the crank case oil?
and the air filter?

it sounds like the carb may be dirty or clogged with sediment from sitting.
take the carb off and remove the float bowl. blow the jets out with air and make sure there is nothing clogging it up.
also, take the tank off and make sure the coil wire is secure and the coil is tight. check other wiring while your in there.
there is a wire loom that runs from the coil to the ignition inside the cases, check that wiring and take the cover off the ignition plate and see if there is oil fowling the electrical. clean it also. you can use electricaal parts cleaner

get a can of carb cleaner so when you have it apart you can spray it to clean.
also if you spray a squirt of quik start in the air filter just before you kick it if it has spark it will try and start.

Bike has not been rode for over a year finally got it to start easy, but while I had the air cover off I shut it down because gas mixed with oil was being pumped out the breather hose on rear cylinder

YEAR,MAKE,MODEL??
Plus,...if the bike has been sitting for a long time,it is possible to have water in the fuel tank. So i wouldnt rule out gas just yet. Most likely it is fuel mixing with oil,and the carbs are going to have to be taken off, cleaned, floats set,and synched. And of course, drain old fuel and replace with new fuel. It would also be a good time to change the plugs, and oil while your at it.

How much oil does my bike hold it is a 83 suzuki gs750es.

as far as a exact amount i'm not sure, there is a oil glass on the right hand side engine cover near or on the clutch cover. there will be two lines right next to the top is full the bottom is the fill, after you drain the oil and fill, start the bike for a few sec to let the oil fill the filter after shutting the bike off let it sit before topping off this will let the oil run back to the pan so you dont over fill it. next to the fill plug on the bike for the oil there is most likely a set of numbers read something like this 2100cm 3, that is 2100 cc of oil you can get a ratio rite at any local bike shop. you can pick a service manual and get all final numbers.
Good luck my friend

Cant get my 125cc motor bike going for the first time

hummm check your electrical connections make sure you have the stop run switch is in run position, you have fuel flow to the carb, make sure you are getting spark to the spark plug by using a extra spark plug remove the plug cap and ground it to the head and kick start the engine and see if you are getting spark to the plug.
hope this helps

Can't kick start but witnessed others do it!!

Check your spark plug. If it's black (rich mixture), replace it. (There may be carb/ignition/air intake issues causing the rich mixture.) But it's probably your starting technique. I suggest getting an owner's manual or contacting a dealer who can instruct you in the proper starting procedure.

Blowin blue with V twin Quad with only 61 hours

I would put more oil in it and would ride the bike and see if the rings will unstick. Just keep a eye on the oil when running it!!! If this doesn't work then a good chance you will need to rebuild the top end.

Finialising discs..

You have to plug in the AC adapter to finalize a disc. It won't "finalize" on the battery alone.
