I have not worked on a 2014 yet but I WOULD BE AMAZED IF YOU NEEDED TO REMOVE THE FUEL TANK TO CHANGE SPARK PLUG WIRES. HERE is how to remove a 2013 Fuel Tank etc:

Troubleshooting a small Petrol engine that won't start requires a series of short tests and the process of elimination.
Understanding the principles of how a small engine operates is helpful but not necessary.
Proper disposal of hazardous liquids will be required.
The knowledge gained in the performance of this procedure can be applied to many different types and sizes of internal combustion engines.
The average weekend mechanic can complete the process in about an hour.
Put on the safety glasses.
Remove the gas cap and check that there is gas in the fuel tank.
Look at the inline gas cutoff valve located below the gas tank on the fuel line and make sure it is in the on position, with the knob turned straight in line with the fuel line.
Look at the spark plug and check that the wire is securely plugged onto the plug.
Try to turn the spark plug by hand and make sure it is screwed firmly into the hole.
Look at the ground strap by the spark plug and make sure it is not touching the spark plug.
Look at the kill switch located by the controls and make sure it is in the run position.


Remove the air filter by unsnapping its box-like cover or removing the wing nut that holds it onto the carburetor.
Lift the air filter out of the holder and set it aside.
Spray a shot of starting fluid from the aerosol can into the empty air filter area of the carburetor and try to start the engine.
Let the engine run about 30 seconds or until it dies.

Eliminate the electrical system as the cause of the problem if the engine started right up, ran a few moments, and quit.
Remove the gas line from the carburetor by loosening its hose clamp with the screwdriver kit.
Hold the fuel line over the clear glass container and let some gas run into it.
Look at the gas, checking for water and impurities.

Drain the gas tank if the gas looked impure.
Remove the gas filter from the fuel line by loosening its hose clamps with the screwdriver kit.
Replace the gas filter with a new one if the gas did not run into the glass at a rapid pace.
Reinstall the gas line and gas filter.
Fill the gas tank with new gas.

Find a small drain bolt located on the very bottom middle of the carburetor.
Place a small container that gas won't melt under it and remove it with the wrench kit.
Let the old gas drain out of the bottom until the new gas starts to flow out. Screw the drain bolt back into the bottom of the carburetor.

Clean up any spilled gas off the motor and elsewhere with the shop rag.
Place the rag in the metal bucket a safe distance from the work area.
Clean the air filter with warm, soapy water if it is the spongy type, or replace it with a new one.
Install the air filter. Start the engine.

Unplug the spark plug wire from the spark plug if the engine did not start.
Hold the insulated part of the spark plug wire with one hand and place the bare part about 1/4 inch away from the top of the spark plug.

Try to start the engine and watch for a spark between the wire and the plug. Replace the spark plug wire with a new one if it shocked you through the insulation.
Remove the spark plug using the spark plug wrench and replace it with a new one if there was a spark.
Try to start the engine. Let the engine run until it performs smoothly.

Do not do anything else if there was no spark, as the trouble is inside the internal workings of the engine and requires professional repair and tools.

How do i remove the gas tank on a 2011 harley FLHTK Electra Glide


Release the fuel quick disconnect on the left side under the tank. Unplug the wires for the fuel sending unit. Remove both bolts on each side at the front of the tank. Remove the seat and remove the bolt at the rear of the tank. Lift the tank off.

Will not start


THE BLOWERVAC COULD HAVE GAS PROBLEM OR A NO SPARK TO SPARK PLUG PROBLEM. TO DETERMINE THE SPARK PROBLEM FIRST, REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG, LOOK AT THE END OF THE SPARK PLUG (ENGINE END) TO SEE IF IT IS DRY OR WET WITH GAS, THEN RE-ATTACH THE SPARK WIRE WHILE THE SPARK PLUG IS LAYING LOOSE AND PULL THE ROPE TO TURN THE ENGINE AND LOOK TO SEE IF THERE IS SPARK OCCURING AT THE SPARK PLUG. IF THERE IS SPARK PRESENT, YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SPARK. REPLACE THE PLUG AND WIRE. IF NO SPARK CHECK YOUR WIRE LEADING TO THE SPARK PLUG TO MAKE SURE IT HAS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AT BOTH ENDS, SPARK PLUG END AND ENGINE END. IF LOOSE FIX THE CONNECTION THEN RE-TRY THE SPARK/ENGINE TURN OVER BY ROPE METHOD AGAIN TO SEE THEN IF YOU HAVE SPARK. IF THEN YOU DO HAVE SPARK, RE-ATTACH SPARK PLUG TO THE ENGINE AND RE-ATTACH SPARK PLUG WIRE TO THE SPARK PLUG AND TRY THEN TO START THE ENGINE.
IF THERE WAS A WET PLUG WHEN YOU FIRST REMOVED THE SPARK PLUG AND YOU NOW HAVE SPARK AT THE SPARK PLUG, YOUR ENGINE SHOULD START.
IF IT STILL WILL NOT START AFTER THE SPARK CHECK, I WOULD REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG WITH A NEW ONE.
IF THEN IT WILL NOT START, THEN REMOVE THE SPARK PLUG AGAIN AND POUR A SMALL AMOUNT OF GAS INTO THE ENGINE SPARK PLUG HOLE. A PINT PLASTIC OIL CAP FULL OF GAS IS ENOUGH, DO NOT OVER USE MORE THEN THAT.
THE RE-ATTACH YOUR SPARK PLUG AND SPARK PLUG WIRE AND TRY STARTING THE ENGINE AGAIN. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL PULLS TO GET THE EXTRA GAS IN THE SPARK HOLE TO BE USED UP BEFORE YOU START TO HEAR IT RUN ALITTLE AND FIRE NOW AND THEN.
IT SHOULD START THEN.
IF THEN IT DOES NOT START, YU HAVE USED UP THE GAS YOU PUT INTO THE ENGINE BY THE CAP FULL METHOD AND IT IS NOT GETTING GAS BY THE GAS TANK SUPPLY.
THIS MEANS THEN YOU HAVE AN IN LINE GAS LINE FILTER THAT IS PLUGGED UP OR YOUR GAS MAY BE OLD IN THE GAS TANK. IF GAS IS NOT OLD AND FILTER IS NOT PLUGGED, THEN YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE GAS LINE LEADING TO THE ENGINE CARBURATOR TO SEE IF IT WILL FLOW FROM THE GAS TANK OUT THE GAS LINE SUPPLY HOSE. IF IT DOES FLOW FREELY, THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE A GAS SUPPLY PROBLEM,
AS LONG AS YOUR GAS IS NOT OLD GAS. OLD GAS WILL GO BAD IN TIME. I'D REPLACE THE GAS WITH NEW AND TRY AGAIN.
IF THIS DOES NOT WORK, THEN ITS CARBURATION CLEAN UP TIME.
IT WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE ENGINE BY A FEW BOLTS, HOSE'S REMOVED AND TAKEN APART AND CLEANED. TARNISH FROM GAS AND OIL WILL BLOCK THE CARBURATOR JETS AND VACCUM PUMP FROM WORKING PROPERLY. CLEAN AND REPLACE, TRY AGAIN TO START ENGINE.
MORE GAS IN SPARK PLUG HOLE TO GET GOING MAY BE ANOTHER ATEMPT AFTER CARBURATOR CLEAN UP.

My 1987 honda helix wasn't starting and i discovered a blown fuse for the ignition. after replacing the fuse it cranks but will not turn over. the battery is fully charged and there is 1/4 tank of gas in...


Lets see is it fuel or spark? Pull a plug wire remove plug. Now clean plug with clean wire bush. Now put wire back on plug ground to engine crank and see if you have spark.
So you have spark it is now time to check fuel. Start by removing hose from petcock on tank and see if fuel comes out you could have a bad vale / switch got fuel. Remove air cleaner and give carb a shot of starting fluid see if it starts now.

There is a tool pouch under the seat...In it there is a tool for removing the spark plugs..

I would recommend that you at least remove the gas tank...It'll make it a little easier to remove and replace the plugs. But, before you remove the plugs...Take an air compressor with a blow gun and blow out the spark plug ports, so no dirt or debris gets into the cylinder. Remove one spark plug wire at a time...Blow the port out...Then remove the plug...Check it and if it's good, re-check the gap and reinstall the plug...Put the wire back on and move to the next plug. Repeat the above...

Make sure you don't cross-thread the plugs when you reinstall them...Make sure the wires are firmly on the plugs...And make sure you put the right wire on the right plug, which shouldn't be a problem if you only remove one at a time.

And also make sure when you reinstall the gas tank that the fuel lines are firmly seated...

Removing and replacing your spark plugs is fairly easy.

you would need to get the right spark plugs, remove the wire to the plug one at a time, remove the old plug, install the new one and replace the wire

Engin developes diesel knock followed by the engin management light comes on


Assuming the engine timing is'nt the problem; you may have a fouled spark plug, bad spark plug wire, or excessive carbon build-up on the valves and pistons etc. Make sure all fluid levels are where they should be. Try replacing the spark plugs and wires. Look in your operator's manual in the specs sections and make sure the spark plugs that are installed are gapped properly. Improperly gapped spark plugs or split-fire ( can't be gapped) spark plugs are known to cause engine issues. Make sure to use dielectric grease when connecting the spark plug boots to the spark plugs; and the wires to the distributor. Also run a couple bottles of fuel system or injector cleaner and water remover through several tanks of gas to remove any possible excessive carbon build-up. Hope this helps. God bless!

Spark Plug Wires - Removal & Installation

3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE Twist the spark plug boot one-half turn in order to release the boot. Pull on the spark plug boot only. Do not pull on the spark plug wire or the wire could be damaged.
  2. Remove the intake manifold cover, if required.
  3. Disconnect the left side spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  4. Disconnect the left side spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
  5. Remove the spark plug wire clips from the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor bracket and the heater inlet and outlet pipe tab.
  6. Remove the spark plug wire assembly.
  7. If replacing only one plug wire, open the retaining clips and remove the appropriate spark plug wire.
  8. Disconnect the right side spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  9. Disconnect the right side spark plugs from the ignition coils.
  10. Remove the spark plug wire assembly.
  11. If replacing only one plug wire, open the retaining clip and remove the appropriate spark plug wire.
To install:
  1. Install the spark plug wire assembly.
  2. Connect the right side spark plugs to the ignition coils.
  3. Connect the right side spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
  4. If replacing only one plug wire, open the retaining clip and install the appropriate spark plug wire.
  5. Install the spark plug wire assembly.
  6. Connect the left side spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
  7. Connect the left side spark plug wires to the ignition coil.
  8. Install the spark plug wire clips to the MAP sensor bracket and the heater inlet and outlet pipe tab.
  9. If replacing only one plug wire, open the retaining clips and install the appropriate spark plug wire.
  10. Install the intake manifold cover, if required.

Check to see if you have spark. You'll need an inline spark tester that goes between the spark plug and the wire. You can't have the spark plug loose or the Ion sense will not allow the ignition system to spark. Is it carb or fuel injection. If it's fuel injection make sure the fuel pump is kicking on. You'll hear it when you turn the key on. It will cycle then shut off, it builds up pressure in the lines to accommodate the injection. If it's carb make sure you've got gas at the float bowl. loosen the small drain screw on the bottom of the car. Fuel should run out. If there is fuel in the float then I would go for flushing the gas tank to remove any old fuel in the tank. If the tank wqas stored with some fuel init, it could have alot of water in it due to sitting for so long. If the gas smells nasty, flush the tank and pull the plugs, I'd replace them or clean them with a spark plug cleaner ( Sand Blasting ). Remember, gas that works in a car doesn't mean it will work in a bike, quad scooter etc. Motorcycle are picky when it come to there gas, and you can get all sorts of symtoms from having bad gas. Gas only has a shelf life of approx. 30 days before it starts going bad. Also, try using mid grade or lower fuel too. Since gas prices went up, the premium gas is sitting in the tanks longer causing them to not work as well as it used to for bikes. If you have a carb make sure that you are getting gas flow. The diaphragm on the petcock needs between 2-5 p.s.i. to activate this.
