Hi Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine run switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, loose, corroded or broken battery cables, especially the "NEGATIVE" cable at both ends (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Security alarm needs a reset.
6. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
7. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

will not turn on is not the same as will not start. which did you mean?? putzing with anything electrical could have led to a blown fuze...... check them all especially if you have absolutely NOTHING happening when you turn on the key, if you have lights and only no starter, there is a fuse for that also... but spray some contact cleaner into the starter button and work it... check the ground on the starter as well as the MAIN fuse... the starter solenoid should be making a noise when you hit the button... if it isn't, bridge the terminals on the solenoid with a screwdriver and see if the starter kicks in... IF SO, replace the solenoid...

Transmission solenoid


This is an electrical problem. Start at the solenoid within the overdrive unit itself by disconnecting the electrical connector. Apply 12 VDC in the proper polarity to the terminals and you should hear a click within the unit. Next, using the terminal electrical connector as your endpoint, connect a DVOM to the two terminals, use the continuity setting (it should beep when you have continuity). Trace the wiring through the transmission tunnel up to the button and verify that when you press the button there is continuity to the DVOM. Now switch your DVOM to the DC setting, closest to 12 VDC. Repeat the test and look for 12VDC to appear on the meter. If you have continuity but no 12 VDC, check for a faulty connection in the electrical distribution center behind the ashtray. If you have neither continuity nor 12 VDC you have a dead open in the circuit and that is best remedied by replacing the wiring in between the solenoid and the button. 18 gauge stranded - don't use the cheap stuff - trust me, it will crumble in short order.

Let me briefly explain what happens when you turn n the key. All power is off in the off position with the possible exception of the brake light. When you turn on the key, you supply power from the battery to the electrical system. Typically, all systems are powered through a connection on the start solenoid. When key is on and the solenoid is in the off (or rest) position - all electrical works. When you energize the start solenoid, you need all the power you can get to run the starter - everything electrical turns off. After the start, you release the start button, everything electrical comes back on (solenoid returns to the rest position).
In your case, you say everything goes dead when you press the start button - this is as it should be - however, the mechanics of this system should deliver power to the starter - which evidently it is not. (A solenoid is nothing more than a electric powered heavy duty switch) It is possible your solenoid is worn out. There is heavy sparking/burning of the contacts every time you press the button. First thing to do is check voltage on the start side of the solenoid when you press the button. Voltage should be the same as on the hot side with the key on. Other possibilities - the wire from the solenoid is loose, damaged or disconnected, check both ends for tightness and cleanliness. There is that possibility there is a problem with your starter. Removal is not for the faint of heart though it is possible. There is also that possibility your engine is locked up and your starter can not turn it over because of that. If this is the case and you have a amp meter - you will see heavy draw on the starter wire. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can so all the prelim checking.

Have 2003 Honda Sabre. All electrical working fine. New battery. When I press starter button nothing happens. Could there be a blown fuse. All 10amp fuses good


Chances are that that problem is not fuse related. It is more likely you have a defective starter button. The starter button does two things. First, it turns off the headlight and , second, it activates the starter solenoid. If your starter solenoid clicks when you push the starter button, the starter button is good. If nothing happens when you press the starter button it may be dirty or broken. Try taking the switch apart and cleaning the button contacts.
Next go to the starter solenoid and try jumping the power from one solenoid post to the other. You can use a jumper cable clamp, a screw driver, or touch the two cables together, this sends power directly to the starter. If the starter works now you have a bad solenoid (burnt internal contact points).
If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer or back of a screw driver and the starter works , you need new starter brushes. There are no other parts (other than brushes) available for the starter from Honda. If the bearings are bad or the armature is shorted you will have to replace the starter assembly.

Bike wont start press the start button and nothing happens


Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. Unplug the two small wires going to the solenoid and use a voltage meter to see if you have continuity when you press the starter button. If you do not, clean the starter button or replace the switch assembly. If you jump the two cable terminals on the solenoid and the starter cranks, you have a bad solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need new starter brushes. Any other problem with the starter and you will need to buy a new assembly.

I went to try and start my bike but it wont turn on. I turned the key to the on position and the lights and everything turn on. Press in the clutch and then hit the electric start button but nothing...


Dirty starter button (bad switch). You can carefully take it apart and clean. Bad solenoid, clicks but internal contact is burnt and not transferring electricity to starter.To check, jump the two posts on top of the solenoid (one from the positive battery terminal and the other goes to the positive battery terminal) or touch the cables together, this should make the starter work. If starter turns the solenoid is bad . If not you have a bad starter. Try replacing brush's. If brush's are marginal you can hold the starter button and gently tap the starter with a plastic hammer . If starter works then bad brush's. If the armature is bad You will have to buy a whole starter.

Nothing happens when I press start button on my shower


try flushing out the water pipes put some pressure on it with the selenoid taken out and nothing but the pipe there use some shark bite fitting I know this is in close quaters and if you don't know how to solder these are easy connections, take the whole assembly out and flush it, might have a kink in one of the tubes to the shower

Kawasaki zzr400 (1994 model),streetfighter wont start


check starter solenoid.see if getting power to starter side when pressing button .if yes check if power to starter w/ test light when pressing button.if power there check starter,also motor, will it turn manually or is it seized.if no power to starter side of solenoid, jump across solenoid posts w/ a large screwdriver -motor will probaly turn over,w/ key on.if small wire to solenoid has power when pressing start,solenoid bad,if no power, wiring or start button bad.
