Hi Anonymous, I would go with replacing the nuetral light switch, they have had issues in the past, and Harley now has an updated version. Good luck

500 Suzuki Vinson 2007 Need to know how to find power source to dash indercator n for neutral. And to send power to coil to start motor. Please help stuck.

You will need a wiring diagram to correctly locate and determine which wire. Generally, the neutral switch is mounted on the top or front of the gear case. When in neutral, the switch is closed to send power to the dash indicator to let you know its in neutral. When in gear, the switch is "open" so the light will be off. If you find the switch, you can join the 2 wires together and that should light the neutral indicator and provide power to the starter. disconnect the join when the engine starts. It should be OK for an emergency to get home.

What is the neutral switch for ? and how do i remove the switch to replace the old one. on my 1999 yamaha road star silverado 1600

the neutral switch is to tell you its in neutral and of course stop people riding away with the stand down in gear, it automatically cuts out when the stands down in gear but wont in will be down the bottom of the engine usually on the left hand side and have one wire going to it which goes to earth when in neutral and lights up the neutral light indicator bulb.

2006 rt 1200 wont start new battery neutral and first gear dont show on dash

The fact that the neutral light does not show up on the dash may indicate that the gear position indicator is not calibrated correctly. Does the bike start with the clutch pulled in?

Aprilia rs 125 put the bike into gear and push it with the clutch leaver held in and its still in gear it starts fine then just cuts out when put into gear

Check for proper operation of side stand switch, clutch switch, neutral indicator lights up as it should on neutral gear position.

Gear lights won't work 1-5 only 6th

Are you sure you have any other gear indicators?

My 2008 FLHRC only has a neutral light and a 6th gear light.
No lights for any other gear.

Always shows neutral gear

if your neutral indicator light stays lit all the time, you have a bad neutral indicator switch or a wiring problem. Look for the neutral indicator switch at the right side of the chrome cover on the transmission. There are two wires that attach to it.

The neutral indicator switch is mounted in the right-hand crankcase directly forward of the main drive gear shaft and behind the forward belt pulley.

To access the switch, you must remove the front belt pulley cover. To get to the switch itself, you'll have to loosen the final drive belt and remove the pulley.

Disconnect the wire from the neutral switch. Turn the ignition on and ground the wire. The Neutral indicator light should light up. If not, you have an electrical problem between the neutral switch and the indicator light. If the light works like it should but will not work when on the switch, you need to replace the neutral indicator switch.

Simply screw the old switch out and install a new one.

Good Luck
