Carburetor cleaning how to remove the carburetor of the bike? where all is it bolted or attached? any cautions regarding this?? Please advice. I want to remove the carburetor and do some cleaning.

Remove Jammed Nuts and Bolt


The easiest way to remove jammed or rusted nuts and bolt is to put a few drops of car / bike brake fluid on the threads and wait for about 10 minutes.<br />The brake fluid is a higly penetrative liquid and displaces rust.<br />One word of caution - Brake fluid reacts with paint so take care and make sure it does not drip on painted parts!!<br />After removing the nut /bolt remember to wipe them clean before reinstalling.<br />

    • 1 Remove the motorcycle's carburetor and clean it with carburetor cleaner, getting rid of any and all grime and deposits within. If necessary, use an air compressor with a small tip to blow out any clogged lines within the carburetor.
    • 2 Check the motorcycle's fuel tank for old fuel. Drain the fuel tank completely and refill the tank with fresh fuel. Old gasoline isn't good for most motors, especially older ones.
    • 3 Remove the motorcycle's seat by unscrewing the two mounting bolts on both sides of the back of the seat with a 12 mm socket wrench. Pop off the top of the air box and remove the bike's air filter. Clean this thoroughly in hot, soapy water. Rinse it off, let it air-dry then apply air filter oil before reinstalling it in the motorcycle.
    • 4 Check the tire pressure and integrity of both tires on the motorcycle. If either tire is flat, leaking air or overly worn, replace the tire and tube.
    • 5 Change the motorcycle's oil. Warm the bike up, then remove the oil drain plug underneath the transmission and drain the oil. While the drain plug is still loose, fill the oil reservoir until oil begins to run out of the plug. This means the reservoir is full. Tighten the drain plug.

I have a troybuilt bronco riding tractor with 18horse Kohler twin engine. it cranks but wont fire. It is getting fuel to the carb. If I spray carb cleaner into the carb it will run for a second then...


You most likely have a problem in the carburetor. It will need to be disassembled and cleaned. In regards to the backfire eliminator, you can remove it (caution, clamp off the fuel at the fuel line or you will be draining the fuel tank throught the carburetor. With the wire harness removed you attach two wires to the prongs and put one to positive and the other to negative and it should move. It should audibly click when it does, operates quickly.

Hi i own a bajaj caliber 2001 model fine but there is only only one problem some times the fuel overflow so advice how to fix it or i should change the carborature please adive . raman,delhi


If the fuel is overflowing from the carburetor itself, remove the carburetor and clean the float, needle, and seat with spray carburetor cleaner. Use compressed air to blow out the fuel inlet passage. Check the condition of the fuel filter--replace it if needed. Hope this helps!

3.3L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Fig. 1: Disconnect the negative battery cable 88172g31.gif

  2. Remove the three bolts attaching the starter to the engine/transaxle. Fig. 2: Remove the three starter mounting bolts 88172g32.gif
    CAUTION
    Be careful when removing the starter motor mounting bolts, the motor can be quite heavy. Personal injury could result if the starter motor falls from its mounting position.
  3. Remove the starter from the the transmission housing. Position the starter to gain access to the wiring connectors.
  4. Remove the battery positive cable nut from the starter and remove the cable. Fig. 3: Remove the battery positive cable nut from the starter and remove the cable 88172g33.gif

  5. Disconnect the push on solenoid connector.
  6. Remove the starter from the vehicle. To install:
  7. Clean all wire terminals of dirt, grease or corrosion.
  8. Attach the electrical wire connectors and secure with the mounting nuts. Tighten the starter solenoid B+ nut to 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm) and the solenoid wire-to-starter nut to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  9. Hold the starter motor in place, then secure in place with the 3 attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
3.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. For easier servicing, do not remove the wiring from the starter motor at this time.

  5. Remove the starter solenoid assembly from the transfer housing. Position the starter to gain access to the wiring connectors.
  6. Remove the battery positive cable nut from starter and remove the cable.

  9. Clean all wire terminals of dirt, grease or corrosion.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the engine undercovers, if so equipped.
  2. Remove the 3 bolts attaching the starter to the engine/transaxle. CAUTION
    Be careful when removing the starter motor mounting bolts, the motor can be quite heavy. Personal injury could result if the starter motor falls from its mounting position.
  3. Remove the heat shield and its clamp, if so equipped.
  4. Remove the two electrical wire connector terminal nuts and remove the wiring connector from the starter.
  5. Remove the starter from the vehicle. To install:
  6. Clean all wire terminals of dirt, grease or corrosion.
  7. Attach the electrical wire connectors and secure with the mounting nuts. Tighten the starter solenoid B+ nut to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm) and the solenoid wire-to-starter nut to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  8. Install the heat shield if one was removed.
  9. Hold the starter motor in place, then secure in place with the 3 attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) for all vehicles except Premier and Monaco. Tighten the attaching bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm) for Premier and Monaco.
  10. Install any undercovers which were removed from the vehicle.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

How to change fuel pump ?


  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect fuel tank hose at the fuel pump, and plug the hose with a bolt or wooden dowel to keep any fuel from flowing out wires. Check the hose and if it is frayed or cracked, replace it with new fuel line hose.
  3. Disconnect the outlet line to the carburetor. Use a wrench on the fuel pump fitting and another on the line nut.
  4. Remove the two attaching bolts and remove the old fuel pump. Clean off any old gasket material from the mounting surface of the engine.
Installation:
  1. Apply a coat of gasket sealer on both sides of the new gasket. Put the attaching bolts through the new pump and slip the gasket over the bolts.
  2. Install the new pump on the engine. Make sure that the rocker arm in the pump is against the eccentric inside the engine, or that the push rod is correctly installed in both the engine and the fuel pump. If the push rod slides out, you can pack it with some heavy grease to hold it in place while you install the pump.
  3. Attach the fuel outlet line that runs to the carburetor. If it's difficult to connect, remove the other end of the line from the carburetor. Connect the line to the fuel pump, and then reattach the other end to the carburetor. Use a wrench to hold the fuel pump fitting and tighten the line nut with another wrench.
  4. Attach the fuel inlet hose from the gas tank, and the vapor return hose (if the vehicle is equipped with one). Tighten all clamps.
  5. Reconnect the battery ground cable, start the vehicle and check for leaks.

84 kawasaki voyager bike has sat up for 2 years. has low spark & fuel but will not start once in awhile it will pop or back fire.


fuel problem :
first try starting fluid spray can. if runs very short time, then carburetors are gummed up...need re-jetting or remove and buy a gallon of carb solvent and soak carbs for a day then shake out vigorously then air blow dry with compressor then retry

low spark...could be dirty plugs-clean them- or worse may be bad spark unit...try removing spark unit and pull away from chassis then re-attach wires and try....if ok spark, then unit is grounding out to chassis on rear mounting surface...look at back for small cracks in black plastic on unit.
