Hi Anonymous, start by switching to high octane premium fuel, Chevron, Mobil, Shell, ect. ethanol is not a friend of your engine. Use only Harley Davidson 20w50 Syn 3 oil. Install an oil cooler, engine oil temperature should be 180 to 220 degrees. Usual suspects for pinging are as follows:
1. Fuel octane rating to low.
2. Faulty spark plugs.
3. Incorrect spark plug for the type of service.
4. Excessive carbon deposit on head or in combustion chamber.
5. Ignition timing advanced due to faulty sensor inputs (MAP, CKP, CMP).

Hi, Michael to avoid premature engine wear and damage this condition should be eliminated "ASAP" and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel octane rating too low.
2. Compression too high due to excessive carbon deposit buildup on top of the piston, top of the cylinder bore, and cylinder head dome.
3. Engine overheating due to lack of lubrication, coolant, or lack of cool air passing by top end cooling fins due to accessories or bike not moving.
4. Engine under heavy load due to riding double overweight luggage etc.
5. Fuel-air mixture too lean or too rich.
6. Outside air temperature too hot for the load (dessert).
7. Faulty knock sensor.
8. Electronic ignition timing too far advanced due to faulty sensor inputs (MAP, CKP, CMP)
9. Points plate too far advanced or mechanical advance mechanism worn out.
10. Blocked exhaust causing excessive backpressure.
11. Incorrect spark plugs for the kind of service causing overheated tip.

My 2004 mazda b 2300 (105,000 miles) "bucks" when i shift up (usually at about 2000 rpm or less)

The engine may misfire and/or buck while driving at freeway speeds with no fault code stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This can be caused by an intermittent fault with the camshaft synchronizer assembly. This condition can be diagnosed by monitoring knock sensor data as per Ford service bulletin #05-22-12. Replacement of the synchronizer assembly will be required to correct this concern.

I have a 98 ranger 3.0 Liter with 134,000 This thing pings likes crazy going up any slight upgrade ( mostly highways ). Tried 93 Oct and fuel injector cleaners, but still pings.Does not do it as much now...

Have you checked the ignition timing and that the automatic timing advance is working and set to give the correctly advance at the specified engine speeds. The other thing could be a carbon build-up in the combustion chambers which starts to glow when it is hot and cause the fuel mixture to ignite too early. You could also have this effect if the engine is running below its torque range (about 2500 rpm) when under load.

Engine pings when driving, replaced egr and egr solenoid still pings. driving down the freeway, replaced spark plugs a year ago. engine runs good no miss at idle or above

let me guess....... you are using regular 87 octane gas ? run it down to almost empty and fill it with super and see it it works you probably have about 100,000 miles on it the camshaft, lifters and valve springs, timing chain are all worn

The bike pings at high revs about 3-4000 rpm.Especially on hot days,it has a full Micron exhaust system.

Hmm, pinging is too lean a mixture or the timing is too high, or you need to run premium fuel. Did you re-jet the carbs after putting the exhaust on, if not, that is a good place to start
